Vehicle Detail
I live overseas and don't have the opportunity to take anymore pictures than what I've included. I can describe anything you want to know about, but if you don't see it in a picture below, I can't show it to you. I bought this car in August '09 intending to work with it after I moved back to the US, but my job is keeping me abroad for a few more years; so I've decided to sell. I'm not desperate for money, and it isn't costing me a penny to store it at my father in-law's place; so please spare me the low-ball offers. It's worth what I have in it, and that's all I'm asking for it. Options: Power steering, power brakes, power windows, tilt/telescopic steering column, air conditioning, rear window defogger, alarm system Body: Brands Hatch Green (Paint code: 983) exterior that was partially stripped down (as shown in pictures) before I bought it. Paint in the jambs is okay for a driver; so depending on what kind of restoration you're trying to do, you could get away with not tearing it all down. Body doesn't appear to have ever been damaged, and all bonding strips look original. Passenger door does not appear to be the original, but I couldn't say why. Pictures from before I bought it mostly show it with an L88-style hood, but the car now has a '68-72 short-style standard hood (GM/OEM part) as would have come on it. Underside structure of hood has some ugly repair work that needs to be cleaned up/finished, but otherwise, it's a good hood. I have two other '68-72 short-style standard hoods with no damage or repairs at my parents' house in southern Illinois. You can have your pick of one of them if you want to deal with shipping or pick up, but that will be on the buyer's dime. Interior is Dark Saddle (Trim: 417), and the pictures tell all there is to say. Not shown are the two door panels; they are pretty beat up and you'd want to replace them, but they have all the trim & lock-plates that you can re-use and save a couple hundred bucks. Frame has surface rust only; no rotted out areas. The birdcage is also perfect. The biggest reason I bought this car was because these are both in such great shape. I guarantee that you won't run into any unforeseen problems here. Drivetrain: is original from the transmission back. Engine is not original, and I've never run down all of the numbers to know don't know what it came out of. All I know is that it's a 3970010 block. Previous owner said it came out of a '76 Corvette, but it has a two-barrel intake & carb, which I assume are original to the engine; so I don't think he was correct. The previous owner says that he had it running and it had no problems, but I've never started it in the past 2+ years of owning the car; so I can't make any promises. The transmission is leaking some fluid, but I don't know if it's just a pan gasket or a seal. Previous owner said the brakes are gone and probably needed new calipers, but that's to be expected on these cars. The following parts are missing or need to be replaced: Tires (~$400) Gas tank (~$200) [sender, neck, straps are all there] Rocker moldings (I've picked these up used on eBay or Craig's List for as little as $125) Parking brake console (~$125) Carpet ($250) Door panels ($400) Brakes: calipers, flex-lines & master cylinder (~$550) A/C compressor (~$260) [brakets are on the engine] If you know Corvettes and can do most of the work yourself, then you should be able to make this a nice driver for around $10-11K total investment and make at least a 50% return if you sell. Shipping is buyer's responsibility, and car is located in Burleson, TX; zip 76028. Again, I live outside the US, but I'll be in-country until late on 26 November when I fly out. During this time, you can call me at my temporary number 817-449-3219.
