Vehicle Detail
This is a very rare CJ6 with a factory 18 inch stretched body. It has a wheel base of 101". The guys in the 4x4 clubs pay big money to have their CJs stretched so they are not as prone to go over frontwards and backwards at Moab, and then the quality and finish of the conversion depends on who performs the work. They only made these in this length between 1956 and into the early seventys. As I understand they are even a little longer than the scramblers made in the eightys. Here's a brief run down on history of this vehicle as I have heard. In California, in about 1972, it received a renovation and v-8 conversion. They painted the dash, firewall and exterior orange. On the inside of the body it is painted with a very durable gray trunk type splatter paint-it still looks great. A new best top was installed and because it has been garage kept, is still in nice condition except that the plastic windows have that hazy look. There is a product that will polish them back out. All the black part of the roofstill looks almost like new. The paint is in very good condition and looks good as per the pics but there is some checking and a few small parts where the paint popped a little. I took some pics of those spots. Overall I would say the paint is pretty good for being a forty year old paint job. I think most people would use it just like it is. It even has a cool old Berkeley (Go Berkeley Bears) sticker on the rear window. It stayed garaged in California untill about eight years ago and then was moved to Park City Utah where it was again stored in a garage. I bought it while in Park City. The mechanical conversion consist of installing a grammagear 4 speed (GM) tranny and a small block Chev (said to be a 283) . It has headers, polished aluminum intake and cast aluminum valve covers. I don't know how it is built inside but I did a compression check and the cylinders were pretty even at about 130 lbs. In the last few years some upgrades were made to the unit including Super Winch lock out hubs, a brand new Edelbrock 4 barrel carburator, off road shocks and the tires look brand new. As far as how it drives, it has very low gears, in compound low and low range it barely moves. It could turn much larger tires and still be ok for Moab. With the "five something gears" top speed is probably only 55. I think the way it drives is very typical for an early CJ. It has a hanging brake pedal because they installed a firewall mount master cylinder. The spacing between the pedals is to close if you have big feet and should be repositioned. The other thing that should be done is the brakes, the pedal is up but they feel weak. Please give me a call I'll be glad answer any questions Oh it also has a brand new gas tank in the correct position under the drivers seat painted orange to match, also has 3 point seat belts. call 208-308-5036 with questions ThanksOn Nov-01-11 at 13:49:11 PDT, seller added the following information: The 5,601 showing on the speedo is probably the mileage since the motor and transmission swap.
