Vehicle Detail

Up for sale at this time is a 1974 BMW R90/6 with sidecar. R90 models from 1974 carried over the /5 type of electrical switches as you will see in the photos. Also easily seen, this bike has one solid disc brake on the front and a drum brake on the rear. The 1974 model was also the last year for the factory installed kick starter which this one has. The bike runs great; sounds really nice; shifts as it should and stops well. But it is a bit cosmetically challenged. A close look at the photos will reveal various scratches on the tank and frame and battery area covers and other bodywork. You will see signs of use and it is a bit grimy. There has been no attempt to clean this up for the photos or for the sale. The two tires of the bike should be replaced by the next owner. The seat is good for all-day comfort and the mileage showing at 32,656 is believed to be correct. The engine has a deep oil pan and an old-school dip stick featuring a radiating handle. The sidecar was made by the Russian company Dnepr. You will see in the photos that a well-fitting tonneau cover is included. There is some storage area behind the sidecar seat, but this space is somewhat limited by the battery which has been relocated from the bike to the car. This thing is heavy-duty – as in ‘heavy – built to last’. The engineering and equipment that went into this sidecar mount is impressive. Connection to the bike frame is made across the frame in two places ‘up high’ (at the front down tubes and at the rear cradle in the original battery area) as well as down low along the bottom frame rail. There is also a substantial steering stabilizer installed. In addition the sidecar wheel is interlocked by cable to the rear brake pedal of the bike, giving you 3 wheel braking. The weight of this rather large sidecar together with the battery in the rear allows normal use without a passenger or additional ballast. Being a telescopic fork bike, the operator will have to exert some noticeable force on the bars when executing turns while fully loaded. All of the electrical equipment is in working order. This is a matching numbers bike – that is - the frame and the engine have the same serial number 4042136. I am helping my friend reduce his inventory of BMW bikes and this will be the last of 5 bikes to be sold this year. Depending on time and distance, there is a chance I could assist in delivery of this bike / sidecar combination. Please mention this if you might be interested.
