Vehicle Detail

1998 Mercury Mountaineer *NO RESERVE!!* This car has been my all-purpose / commuter vehicle for the past three years. I have driven approx. 50,000 miles of the current 150,000 without a mechanical issue. It has never failed me or left me stranded. The vehicle was given to me by a family friend and I thought it would simply be a ‘disposable’ vehicle that would last a few months. There is intermittent timing chain rattle and I expected the engine would just blow up one day. I did not know at the time that the tensioners are a common problem with this 6 cyl engine and are only annoying, not ruinous. It is shocking how reliable it has been overall, so much so that I have just purchased a Ford pickup solely on my experience with this truck (better suits my needs). I already have a family SUV, so this really must go. I put a new muffler, spare tire, headlight bulbs and battery on it the week I acquired it. After a few months I bought and installed shocks, a new carpet and floor mats. The driver seat is tired/flat and there is a craftsman screwdriver welded on as the seat back recline lever (hey it works). There is only one seat in the second row; the other long seat was removed to load a big item and I forgot to toss it back in. The driver door lock is not working off the remote control, so you have to push it up and down by hand. There is a small rock chip in the windshield; it was there since I got the truck. It never spread and it passes inspection so I didn’t mess with it. Hood shocks are shot, I prop it up with a metal rod. The radio antenna slides down a bit on its own as you drive. One rim is mismatched. There is no sunroof, I just cant take that off the listing - ebay added it automatically. Center armrest pleather is starting to pull away from the edges a bit. The A/C blows ice cold, the Four Wheel Drive works great and the body of the truck is rust free (besides tiny spot near rear wiper, see picture). It has power seats, windows and mirrors. There is a compass in the rearview mirror, extra 12V power plug up front by the passenger seat, big storage bins and cup holders in the center console. The aftermarket radio has a CD player and there is an IPOD interface cable snaked over to the center armrest. The interior is very clean, and I don’t think the truck was ever smoked in. The paint is original and would probably shine like new with a buff. There is absolutely NO DAMAGE on this truck other than tiny, minor dings from 13 years on the road. As you can see from the pics, i'm pretty neat with my things. The truck was not washed or prepped for the photos, thats just how it always is. Rock solid underneath, Rock solid drivetrain, no damage, no rust or rot, 320 miles to a tank, you cant go wrong. There are issues that will need addressing soon that will cost you some money. The front upper control arms/ball joints need replacing ($255 for Dorman Upper and lower control Control Arms at Auto Parts Warehouse.com) and it’s due for a set of tires ($370 for Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S G051 at Tire Rack - add rims and tire mounting for another $400). Figure it into the price when you bid, and you’ll have yourself a nice truck good for another 75,000 miles. I’m in Sussex County, NJ and the truck is available for an inspection and test drive. There are no dumb questions, so ask if you have one. I can send a detailed picture of anything you like. I want you to be happy with the truck and I’ve earned my 100% positive feedback so bid with confidence, just be aware of the truck’s issues before bidding and you won’t be disappointed. $500.00 nonrefundable deposit is due within 24 hours of the auction closing via PayPal. The balance is due within 7 days and can be wire transferred, cash in person, cashier check etc. I will not release the truck until it is paid in full and the funds are clear. I can meet you a reasonable distance (100 miles or so) with the truck, but more than that you will have to make arrangements to ship it or pick it up. If you use a shipping company, I can drive it to the drop off location, within 100 miles but I will NOT take care of any paperwork related to the transport. I can store it on my property for up to 30 days if you need some time to arrange everything. No international buyers or bidders please. Thanks and good luck!
