Vehicle Detail
Hello all, you are looking at my 1974 Opel Manta Luxus. I purchased this vehicle back in May of this year with all intentions of restoring it. Long story short, I have decided not to. I purchased it off of a woman who's father had passed. As far as I can tell, it has been garaged since the late 80's or early 90's. The odometer reads around 62,000 miles, but the titles claims 94,000. She said that she had remembered her father changing out the speedometer but couldn't know for sure. However, I have restored many vehicles, and if this car has over 100,000 miles on it I would be shocked! In fact, I was shocked by the title saying 94,000- it is in quite good condition and you can tell that before it went into storage it was well cared for. So as for the things that you will probably want to know- The body is in remarkable condition. I am assuming that it has lived in Georgia all of it's life because rust is absolutely minimal. Dents are also VERY VERY few. It does have a spot on drivers side rear quarter where it seems to have been rear-ended causing the bumper to be driven into the quarter panel. This chipped off the paint and allowed rust to set in. Not too bad though. You can see the problem area in the pics and It could be fixed with little hassle. Also, the spare tire well has some rust going on, but again it is pretty mild. There are various spots where the paint has flaked off and has developed some surface rust. The battery tray has typical mild rust and has a botch repair job. When I got it, it hadn't ran in more than 20 years. I cleaned the carburator, it is a Webber 32/36. I installed a modern GM alternator, electronic ignition, rotor cap and button, spark plugs, and an electric fuel pump. I dropped the gas tank and cleaned it thoroughly and added some clean fuel and a new filter. She fired right up and purred like a sweet little kitten. I let it run for about 20 seconds, excited as could be. Shut it down and got out of the car with nothing but grins. But then I noticed why it was parked. I had a huge oil spill under the car. I fired it up again and quickly looked underneath, it was leaking from the rear main seal very badly. I have been waiting for the past six months for my garage to be built, but construction is a pain and I have lost steam on this project. The wheels are 18" Konig with brand new tires. It sits great and looks pretty, but I have never driven it. The brakes might work if you bleed them, they might not. The dashboard is cracked up pretty badly and a chipmunk had at some point made it his home. There are no rodents now that I know of and I have a spotless new dash to go in. Overall, It is a fantastic start for a restore. Change out the rear seal and maybe work on the brakes a bit and you could probably drive it right away. It is a non A/C car, Auto transmission, 1.9 liter. The title is all there, I just haven't done anything with it. It was sold to a guy, then to another, then to me- or something like that. I do have a clear GA title and a complete unbroken sale history. What I mean is, there was the titled owner, then bill of sales for everyone up to me. So, should be no problem with it being titled since I have the actual title and bill of sales leading to me.On Sep-14-11 at 08:48:24 PDT, seller added the following information:winning bidder will get both sets of wheels. The wheels and tires that are on the car cost me $900 alone. Also, I forgot to add that there are no bumpers.
