Vehicle Detail
1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL Fastback in very good condition. Real Z Code 390 ccubic inch with a fresh rebuild by Jon McGee of Jon McGee's Auto Service. Car is a 4 speed top loader with a 3.55 rear gear (non-positraction). Car has older quality 2 stage paint and shines like a mirror. Interior is in good shape with original rear seat and door pannels. Milage shows 54,XXX but is most likely inaccurate. Car is equiped with a period tach and under dash oil, temperature and ammeter guages. Ammeter does not work as car still has original generator. All body panels are original to the car with no accidents. The front end is rebuilt and upgraded to disc brakes. The wheels are American Mags with new radials. Need to list another car so more to come.On Sep-12-11 at 08:57:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Let me begin by saying that all of the pictures of this car were taken yesterday prior to beginning the auction. Ebay does not allow revisions once a bid has been placed and one was placed prior to my finishing the description of the vehicle. There were several attempts to download the pictures and finally had to get ebay assistance. Then two of my descriptions were lost in cyberspace and the last of which ebay threw out because there was already a bid. So here goes again. This car had a tree limb go through the windshield during a windstorm a several months ago. I covered the hole with clear tape for the auction but the windshield does need to be replaced (available online for $375.00) and there is damage to the hood as well. A body shop that I use locally said that they could fix it for $600.00 to $750.00. The last picture shows the damage to the windshield and hood. That being said I will continue with my third description. Details: The Body: The 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL Fastback is considered by many, including myself, to be the best looking of all Ford Galaxies. The compound angles and curves in the door skin bear out the engineering that went into making the panels from the original design as it is the most elaborate of all of the Galaxies. IT takes a closer look at the panels to see that the panels follow the design of the exterior stainless steel side trim. The subtly of the roof line over the rear window gives the fastback the illusion of it being a convertible with the top up this was most noticeable when the car had a contrasting vinyl top. The car could be a luxurious sporty car, a step down from the Thunderbird or made to look like a 50's and 60's "lead sled" cruiser, like this one, looking for the next victim at the local drive-in restaurant. This was the last year that really had a "muscle car" look. The body on this car is exceptional for a vehicle that is 47 years old. This car was built in Atlanta and remained in south Georgia since new. There is no sign of ant previous accident damage and based on the condition of the body the mileage might be accurate but I cannot say so for sure, I'll let the pictures do the talking. There is minor rust just beginning on the lip directly over the wheel openings on the rear quarter panels (a normal area to find rust on a car 5 years old in a winter climate let alone 47 years old) and some rust at the lower edges of the rear window. Other than that the car is virtually rust free. Other than that the car appears to be in fantastic condition. All of the sheet metal and panels are original to the car and the fit in terms of margins is very good. As you can see in the pictures the older 2 stage paint job is still in very good condition and shines as it should and is better than most new cars with their factory sprayed orange peel. As with any older paint there will be normal wear. All of the stainless steel and aluminum trim is there and only requires some elbow grease to shine like new. The aluminum trim strip that goes on the front lip of the hood is shown on the back seat of the car's interior. I buffed the paint and the entire cars feels perfectly smooth as a good paint job should and I will glaze the car later today to protect its finish for the new owner. All of the glass is original to the car as well and in great condition. The bumpers are exceptional and I would rate them a 9+ overall on a scale of 1 to 10. The wheels are period looking American mags with new 225/70/14 Cooper Cobra radial tires which were the largest that would fit into the cars wheel wells and not rub the rear fenders. The Interior: The pictures of the interior appears much lighter than the car appears in person. It is actually a deeper red but not maroon. Over all the interior is in good condition and can be used for years the way that it is. The rear seat may be original to the car but the pattern of the front buckets is different from the original pattern. The drivers door panel is damaged at the bottom by leaking weather stripping and new weather stripping is included in the auction for all of the side windows as well as new door rubber seals. It has been this way for years and actually lets one see that there is no horrible rust hiding inside the door under the door panel. The headliner as well as the visors are in excellent condition. The carpet was most likely replaced at some point too, but with the correct loop pile like what came when new. Over all many years of enjoyment can be had doing nothing to the interior. There is a period 8 Track player that is installed since who know when and my wife is throwing in all of her old 8 Track tapes with many various styles of music (30+ or so). There is a period Sunn Tach to avoid over revving and gauges under the dash to eliminate the problems associated with idiot lights". The doors close good and solid. The Mechanics: This car has the desired Z Code 390 cubic inch engine from the factory (not a clone) and was rebuilt within the year and has very few miles since the rebuild. Jon McGee did the work and used all the factory parts to seamlessly convert the car from an automatic to a 4 speed, Jon has a successful auto repair service but Jon's passion for hot rods (built from the frame up by him) and muscle cars has been a life long endeavor. I would drop by Jon's shop just to see what he was building or mechanically restoring. He pays a great amount of time sourcing factory parts and insuring a factory look for mechanical modifications. The speedometer stopped working when the correct Ford 4 speed top loader was install along with the correct factory 3.55 to 1 rear gear. The entire front end was rebuilt and lowered to give the car that period Dixie Drive-in 'ya wanna race' appearance. He also converted the car from front drum brakes to front disc breaks for better stopping, handling and safety and replaced the shocks all the way around. The car drives straight and true and feels more like a late model than a car 47 years old. It is a real pleasure to drive - you will not be disappointed. As always I am sure that there will be more questions and send them through ebay or directly to me at blumeryl@aol.com. I am open to ending the auction early if you just cannot bear to lose it in the final seconds; however, it MUST be done through ebay and the required deposit must be in my Paypal account before I will end the auction - this means it must be done more than 12 hours before auction end. Look at my feedback and bid with confidence that this car is as described. This is not a perfectly restored car but it is like getting a real Z Code car for the price of a straight 6 in the most desirable body style for a coupe. So you ask" "What is it going to take for me to enjoy the car after receiving it?" And the answer is: "A windshield as the rest will not keep the car idle."Now for the unpleasant stuff. If you need to get permission to buy this car - GET IT BEFORE YOU BID - as this is a legal contract based upon Offer and Acceptance. If you have more than 2 Negative Feedback please email me before bidding. If you have bid on an auction and not followed through, your bid will be canceled. If prior arrangements have not been made the car will be re-listed if the deposit is not made in the required 48 hours. Ebay is a terrific place - lets keep it that way.I may be able to help greatly on delivery (like cost of fuel only) if you live any where near the I 85 or I 95 freeways or at a point nearby or in-between as I am traveling to New England (CT just north of NYC) in the next couple of weeks and I have a crew cab dually and car trailer; however, for me to do this the car must be paid for in full. I did this one time before when I sold a Datsun 260Z to a bidder in Ontario who met me in Wilton, CT.ONCE AGAIN CHECK MY FEEDBACK AND BID WITH CONFIDENCE.On Sep-12-11 at 12:39:39 PDT, seller added the following information: Well, just to keep things straight I made an error on the transmission as it is NOT a top loader but what is supposed to be there which is a Borg Warner T10. Also the car will be sold with a Georgia registration and a Bill of Sale which is recognised in all 50 States. Any questions get in touch. Sorry for any confusion. On Sep-17-11 at 08:27:14 PDT, seller added the following information: The time that the auction can be stopped is has run out! I do not want to hear from any more people wanting me to end the auction early! The car will be sold to the highest bidder! Look at my feedback and bid with confidence! Thank you to all currently watching and bidding!
