Here's the Rarest bike in my shop...the Garage sale coninues. Last month Indian chief' '41, JD Harley '27, Triumph T-bird '50 now this:If you don't know what it is, read this: The Welbike was a British single-seat motorcycle devised during World War Two at Station IX — the "Inter Services Research Bureau" — based at Welwyn, UK, for use by Special Operations Executive (SOE). It has the distinction of being the smallest motorcycle ever used by the British Armed Forces,.[1] Between 1942 and 1943, 3,641 units (plus a prototype and some pilot models) were built and although it was not much used by the SOE, some were issued to the British 1st and 6th Airborne Divisions and some were used at Arnhem during Operation Market Garden. Contract 294/23/S.1946 dated 27 December 1942 for 1,341 (reduced to 1,241) Welbikes Frame # 2614 to 3954 War Department # C5153414 to C5154654. It folds up and was chucked out of the transport plane along with the paratrooper with it's own parachute. It had one tank of gas and would get the soldier up the road about 40 miles in the dark and was then discarded. I've had it for over 10 years now..the Villiers 2 stroke motor turns, it has the original seat cover, tires hold air. missing is the 2 piece gas tank..I have photos of the originals for duplication...the air cleaner,levers but the cables are there..and probably a few other bits but the giant portion is all there!
