Vehicle Detail

I have dropped the price one last time. It is down in Blue Book territory now. The wife says it has to go....She gave me a lecture about the tough economy, it's only a car, you already have too many cars, blah, blah.....and the kicker......and what she really meant....Her new SLK is going to live in the garage and my little 01 will have to go outside or into storage. So now it is a matter of space rather than one of $. I purchased this SLK a few years ago here on ebay after a long search for the best maintained, best looking, and best optioned SLK I could find. This car came out of Texas from an owner that was as picky about his rides as I am. It was a pleasure to see it roll off of the transport. It was near perfect and had only 33k or so on the odometer. He used it sparingly and I have done the same adding only 6K in the nearly 4 years I have owned it. It became a garage queen and I only drive it in spring and summer. The prior owner made some aftermarket upgrades that set it apart from the herd. This SLK is outfitted with a beautiful wheel and tire combo that made the car into something more than the other less eyecatching SLK 320's. It rolls on 19" european make wheels that are 9" wide at the front and 10" wide at the rears. The rears are wearing Goodyear 885/30ZR19's and the fronts roll on Toyo Proxes T1R 225/35ZR19's. The wheel wells were professionly rolled to provide good clearance and a pair of spash trim pieces were added in the rear quarters to catch stuff and soften the look. The original black paint really pops and I have clayed the surface and come back over that with Klasse sealant glaze twice every year. I have gone back and forth using Meguiar's Gold Class paste wax and Pinnacle Souveran paste wax every 3 months. The Gold Class gives a harder shine but the Pinnacle gives more gloss and deeper color, though a little soft and shorter lived. The other aftermarket items that add to the car's appeal are the new CLK grille and the trunk spoiler. The stock grille is a little 'toothy' for the car and the black with chrome trim CLK grille is more attractive. I also had the dash, console, and door panels removed and all of the original Sienna Beige and Graphite interior repainted this winter. These early cars came from the factory with real soft interior paint prone to scratches and peeling. No issues now on this one. The interior is in near showroom condition. I also replaced the radio head unit with a new factory unit. The previous owner put Mercedes 'Limited Edition" badges on the front quarters. These were used in later models that featured the Designo interior package. He also removed the '320' badge on the rear of the trunk. Not really correct but the changes take nothing away from the car. I also added new Mercedes SLK mats in April. The windows are tinted a medium dark but not gangster dark. Semi legal here in Ca.. Not much else is... I took it to Mercedes for a complete complimentery inspection this past winter and it needed nothing. I had a service done this past April anyway at 39,438K and had the plugs replaced along with the intake air filters and oil filter with fresh Mobil 1 put in. This Merc drives great. The wheel and tire combo turn it into the true touring coupe that these cars should have been all along. It drives like it is on rails and without the higher sidewalls on the tires you feel the road the way a road car should. With all that tire on the road there is a noticable increase in road noise and a firmer ride. For me it was a good trade off to get a firmer feel in the steering wheel and the surefooted grip that makes the twisty roads a hoot to drive. ****For the purpose of full disclosure. There are a few items that the bidder should be aware of. These were on my short to-do list. 1. The aftermarket spoiler has some small bubbling on the top surface. The paint match was good but the prep was not up to snuff. An inexpensive fix. 2. The wheel lips on two of the wheels have a bit of curb rash on them. The low profile tires don't provide much protection to the chrome lips and I got a little too close on a drive-thru. Also there is a wee bit of bubbling in the chrome on two wheels. I set out to replace those wheels but the quote came back at $2,200. per wheel. It was amazing how those little imperfections became very hard to see right after I got the quote ;-) 3. The small stubby radio mast looks good and won't get snapped off but it is not much on reception. I'm a CD listener so I don't mind but there is a Mercedes auto on/off unit and other work arounds that will improve reception. 4. There is a small 2" north-south crack in the middle of the rear bumper belt. Not real noticable....and it is easily repairable. Apart from the few items above..... every light, switch, gauge, relay, computer and function work as designed. The factory folding tops works perfectly. The SLK comes with all the the factory owners books and the two original keyed remotes The anti lowballer offer rant I had in this spot for a while has thinned the silly offer crowd. Regular interested ebayers can now feel free the shoot me an email with any questions they might have. As extra incentive I will include some Sienna Beige waterbase interior paint left over from my interior repaint. There is enough to do an entire recoat of dash, console and doorpanels. It comes from Australia and is a perfect match. I have a Doctor Colorchip kit that is included in case you pick up an owee. Also the car will come with a complete kit of the Black Box base coat treatment I use yearly. I will throw in a can of the German Klasse glaze sealant that I use too. I'll even toss in 2/3's of a can of $100. per can Pinnacle Souveran wax as a bonus. It is fantastic on black and red paint. If you have specific questions about the SLK or are local and want to check it out and drive it give me a call. For all of those interested you can give me a call at 209-769-4232 and ask for Dave . I have added the Ca. Smog Test done today to the pics. If it is clean here it is clean anywhere. Thanks for looking, Dave o
