NICE 1973 MERCURY COUGAR XR-7 CONVERTIBLE. UPSCALE COUSIN TO THE FORD MUSTANG 351 CLEVELAND WITH 2V CARBC6 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONNADA "Low" Retail = $11k + NADA "Average" = $20kBuy it for less than low retail... I'm selling because I moved and lost my garage storage. The house I'm in actually has a 2 car garage but it is not deep enough and the Cougar doesn't fit! This car is too nice to be parked outdoors.... Convertible XR-7Air ConditioningPower WindowsTilt SteeringPower Top Western Car. Best I can tell this Cougar has spent its life in Southern California, Arizona and a few years with me, in So Colorado. Garage kept and never driven in bad weather ( i.e. snow or ice) at least while I've owned it. I bought this car approx 10 years ago as a restoration project. It had been in San Diego and the prior owner provided several years worth of receipts which the winning bidder can have, as well as all the receipts for parts and repairs I have done since. I have at least $15k into this car. $5k alone in the engine rebuild and paint/body. The body/paint was done about 6 years ago. Door dings, etc were filled in with metal, not Bondo. Original color was light blue with a dark blue interior. I think you'll agree that the Black on White is a better look. The car was stripped down and all areas of the body were resurfaced and painted white, including door jambs, insides of doors, rocker panels, underside of hood, trunk, etc. You'd never know the car wasn't always white. I replaced a ton of stuff on this car, some probably didn't need replacing. I was looking to build a safe and reliable, fun daily driver that would turn heads and get some compliments here and there. Since purchasing this car the following has been done and only approx 5,000 miles have been driven on the car since. Motor: professionally rebuilt to stock + 0.30" over.Transmission RebuiltRear Axel rebuiltCarb rebuiltAlternator replacedRear leaf springs replacedRear Brake drums/wheel cylinders/brake shoes and hardware replacedFront Rotors, calipers, brake pads replacedParking Brake cables replacedFront End entirely replaced including control arms, ball joints, tie rods, etc.Front coil springs replaced4 shocks replacedSteering Box rebuiltDrive shaft balanced/U Joints replacedHeater core replaced Tires and Rims are newerWindshield is new. No sand pitting!Seat Upholstery replaced with Comfort Weave Vinyl from Mustangs UnlimitedCarpet is newer from Mustangs UnlimitedNewer Carpeted floor matsRear interior quarters are new reproductionsSeat back panels are reproductionDash Pad is original and HAS NO CRACKSSteering Wheel is original wood rim blow and HAS NO CRACKSFloor Console is original and is in good conditionConsole has a working clock with clear lenses. Doesn't keep the greatest time, though as the mechanism is 38 years old.I have another clock converted to AA battery power, that keeps better time, also with a clear lens that is included.AM/FM/CD player installed. Also have the original uncut radio bezel with the original AM/FM Radio in excellent condition, which the winning bidder can have. Buyer can also have 2 boxes of spare parts from my old parts car.Top is in good shape. Not new but in good condition and should provide several more years of service. GLASS rear window. All 4 power windows work. Front window motors both replaced. Known minor issues: Rim blow horn switch needs replaced.Top Boot is showing wear and the new owner might want to replace it.AC works. Compressor kicks on and turns freely. Could use a re-charge or conversion to R134-a. Or just drop the top! If you're a stickler for perfection then you might want to have the rear bumper re-chromed. It has a small/soft dent that is not very noticeable. The car has been driven maybe 10 times a year since being painted and will have slight wear and tear. Overall the body is straight and the paint shines like new. Approx 1 pint of the factory Ford White color paint is included to touch up the car if you get a rock ding here and there.... This is a great driver and starts right up every time, shifts smoothly and drives down the road straight as one would expect, considering all the new parts. As I said, this is a safe/reliable driver in good cosmetic condition, not a 100 point show car. If you want a trailer queen trophy winner, expect to pay 2-3 times as much. If you want a fun, safe and reliable driver for weekend drives, cruise nights, etc. than this is your Cat! I've tried my best to describe the accurate condition of the car. If you are near Arizona, come check it out in person. Bid to own and Good Luck! Car is also for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction early if the car is no longer available. On Aug-13-11 at 11:14:45 PDT, seller added the following information:**Two new Turbo Mufflers installed today** I noticed one rattling. Was told a baffle inside had broken loose so I had both mufflers (car has dual exhaust) replaced. Car sounds great. I just want the new owner to have a great experience...
