Vehicle Detail
For auction is a 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300 SD Diesel Sedan. I purchased this vehicle four years ago, and lament the need to sell it. It was purchased from an older couple in Tucson, Arizona, and was promptly driven to Wisconsin where it has served as a reliable summer (And summer only; No salt exposure!) vehicle. It is a strong runner, and has proven very reliable. The overall condition of the vehicle is excellent for something nearly 30 years old. Minor chips to the exterior paint, a few scuffs, and rock chips to the grill plastic, but otherwise a very solid body. No rust present anywhere on the vehicle, and it has never seen a Wisconsin Winter to keep it that way since I've owned it.The Interior of the vehicle has seen some wear, again, natural for a vehicle for this age and mileage. The seats have some wrinkling and need a thorough scrubbing, but do not appear to show any rips or torn seams in the leatherwork. The Dash wood is solid, and show few chips, but is peeling on some corners from the plastic dash (an easy repair!) And the dash itself has a few minor cracks forming around the speaker housings. Windows are intact with no cracks, but the side windows do have an after-market tinting plastic that has since faded to near clear transparency. All seat belts function properly, however there is some wear to the upholstery around the front seatbelt outlets (pictured). The switches for the driver's side door are damaged for the seat controls (plastic seat shaped knobs are missing; the actual electric switches themselves function), and one of the windows (Rear Driver's side) is suffering from the typical cracked plastic bushing in the window track; the electric motor does function. The Sunroof functions as well, and is weather tight. The radio is aftermarket, and functions. The retractable antenna is "fussy", sometimes retracting, sometimes not. More than likely a fault in the wiring going to the aftermarket stereo. The Climate control system works correctly, with working heat and cooling. The AC control has recently become intermittent, with about an 80% reliability, and seems to be weather (wet weather) related. The same can be applied to the Cruise control; operational, outside of wet weather. All other electrical systems operate flawlessly. The Vacuum system is also completely functional, holding a vacuum in excess of seven days. All door locks and trunk locks are fully functional. The transmission, when I purchased it, had approx. 8000 miles on a recent rebuild. Since I've owned the vehicle, the transmission has functioned flawlessly and remained tight, showing no "quirks" from normal operation. The Brakes on the vehicle are good, though last time I had it in the shop (for new tires) the pads were just on the cusp of needing replacement. The engine is strong and tight. No blowby is discernible. Does not burn oil, or leak coolant. The injectors were recently (less than 4000 miles) swapped out with new tips and nozzles; a full set of five injectors are included with this auction, which are functional, and ready for use as a core/rebuilding. The glow plugs were also replaced at the same time as the nozzles. The power steering pump and the starter motor have also been replaced with factory rebuild parts. Starts right up with no protest. Engine also has a block heater. All tires have less than 2000 miles on them, and are in excellent shape. The running gear on this vehicle is also in stellar shape; smooth running and tight. No vibrations at highways speeds and beyond. The vehicle itself, for a sizable diesel has good acceleration and averages between 27-32 MPG on the highway depending on how hard you step on it.Both master and Valet key are included. Overall this is an excellent vehicle, and a wonderful candidate for being touched up and run as it is, or converted over to biodiesel. I really hate to give it up, but with a long distance move and too many vehicles to begin with, I need to pair things down. Here's your chance, especially those of you in the North-Central part of the US, to own a solid, rust free, clean looking, smooth running classic Mercedes-Benz 300 series Diesel. It has never let me down and has been a wonderful car to own and drive since I got it, and I hope to give it a good home. I am free and willing to answer any questions that I can about the auction, and will do my best to do so in a timely manner. Following eBay payment guidelines, down payment is required. Pick-up of vehicle within five business days of end of auction, unless prior arrangements are made.
