Vehicle Detail
Vehicle: This is a 1984 Volvo 245 Turbo station wagon. It is a Canadian metric car that I imported into the US last year when moving from Vancouver, British Columbia to Salt Lake City, Utah. The car had 259,760 kilometers on the odometer when I changed it to a US odometer last year to pass the Utah Safety Inspection. Car has been driven less 500 miles since the odometer change, and with conversion, total mileage is just shy of ~162,000 miles. History: I am the 3rd owner, and have had the car since September, 2007. Car was purchased through private sale from 2nd owner, and had 152,000 miles (244,000 km) at that time. I purchased the wagon as a second car to run around town on weekends, and with full intent to restore. I've put 10,000 miles on the car, including 3 x 1000 mile one-way trips between Vancouver and Salt Lake City last year. Paperwork: Car has been properly imported and has a clean Utah Title. Vehicle also passed Utah Safety and Emissions tests, and is currently plated and registered until September 30th, 2011. Condition: Body: The car body is in decent shape for a car from the Northwest - there is some rust in typical problem areas: right rear wheel well, left rear wheel well, and underside lip of engine hood. Paint will need to be addressed, as the water-based clear coat has peeled on the roof, and is starting peel in other spots. Lastly, there is small dimple along with a scratch on the right rear door. Interior: The interior is cloth and in good shape - there is one tear on the driver's side seat. Passenger seat and back bench coverings have no flaws. Lumber supports broken on both front seats. Dash has numerous cracks from sun exposure. Driver's side door pocket missing. Roof liner is in great shape. Electrics: All lights and signals work, as does bulb light sensor. Front windshield wiper replaced. Rear windshield wiper erratic - could be switch or motor. 2 of 4 power windows are not working - passenger's side front and driver's side rear. I have replacement switches, but have not installed. Temperature: Heater and fan work. No A/C installed. Mechanical: I have not skimped in servicing the car - resolving mechanical issues has been a priority over cosmetic issues. All work performed by Volvo certified mechanics. Drivetrain work includes: Turbo replaced with new Garrett T3. Water-cool kit installed with Turbo replacement - the car is not equipped with an inter-cooler. Main oil seal replaced along with transmission housing O-ring. Other new parts include: water pump, in-tank fuel pump, transmission axle seals, motor mount. Suspension and steering work includes: Rear shocks replaced along with some bushings. Lower ball-joint, L/R power steering boots, replaced. Set of 4 Michelin Primacy xcv 4 tires with about 8 thousand miles on them. Known issues: Most of the heavy lifting has been done mechanically. There is a transmission fluid leak - appears to be at the pan. Some bushings still squeak, but all with signs of damage have been replaced. Fuel injector seals should likely be replaced, and my mechanic has suggested the catalytic converter could be restricted - car passed emissions so this is a performance issue. This wagon has been a reliable second car and object of adoration for the 4 years we've had it. It is also a pretty rare model with the Turbo, and worthy of full restoration. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to see it through. More pictures are available at Flikr: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjvKsWXG
