DESCRIPTION:
This 1988 Jaguar XJSC V12 Coupe/Convertible is a rare exotic automobile! It has an unusual roof set-up with a removeable targa roof over the driver/passenger seats and a folding convertible top in the rear. The targa tops remove easily, but the rear convertible section requires a little more work so I didn't lower it. It works fine though and even has a top boot, which you can see in the pics below. This classic Jag is a real looker. The smooth, sexy lines outside are complimented by the classy ergonomics and wood trim inside. The beautiful black paint is not original, but is the original color. It has some blemishes here and there, but nothing major. I will detail the blemishes shortly.
Inside, the supple tan leather interior looks very good for it's age. There are no rips or tears in the seats or door panels. The carpet looks good, but the mats have some stains. The dash looks great and every control we tried worked fine. The wood trim has some surface cracks, but nothing is coming apart. The headliner is intact, but has a few stains and is coming unglued in the rear convertible section. The door panels look great, but the map pockets inner liners are loose. The convertible's rear plastic window is a little frosted, but has no holes in it. All the electronic features seem to work fine. Overall, the interior is in much better than average condition.
The exterior looks very nice with a rust free body and nice shiny paint. There are some minor exterior blemishes which I will list here: The front bumper looks very good, the fog lights are both cracked, the hood has multiple tiny chips and some acid rain spots, the grille looks nice, but has some chrome peeling on the left side, the headlights and chrome trim look great, the left fender has a few tiny chips, the left door has a small ding and a few tiny chips and scratches, the left 1/4 panel has a tiny chip, the trunk has multiple dings (like from hail damage) and acid rain spots, the rear bumper looks good, the right 1/4 panel has a small ding and a couple tiny chips, the right door has several chips and scratches, the right fender has a few tiny chips, the roof fabric is faded and has some grease spots, the mirrors look good, the chrome spoke wheels look good, but just need some polishing. The windshield has a couple tiny surface chips, but the chrome trim around it looks great. The chrome trim is loose at the left side's bottom area. The exterior is very nice overall.
Mechanically, the car is a little hard starting when cold, but runs great after a few minutes. The car goes down the road smoothly and drives nice with ample power from it's huge 5.3L, V12 engine. The engine is clean and runs smoothly, but there is a slight oil burning smell after running it for a while. The only real mechanical problems are that the brake master cylinder and booster are both leaking and nned to be replaced. The car really cannot be safely driven very far as it is because the brakes get worse over time. So, plan on transporting this car to your home if you win. Another mechanical item needing repair is the A/C system. The compressor works and engages and the A/C controls work, but the system is so low on R12 freon that we could not get a reading on it. There must be a leak in the system somewhere, but we would have to fill it to test it and it needs to be converted to R134A to do that. The current owner doesn't want to go to that expense for the purposes of this sale so just be aware that the A/C is not cold at this time. In addition to those items, the steering gear is leaking a little, but the steering works fine. Also, the engine has a slight oil leak that you can smell, but we have not diagnosed it's origin.
All in all, this Jaguar looks, runs and drives very, very nice (except for the lack of brakes, of course) and it has tons of potential. It is a rare car that will be awesome with a little work. The current owner is willing to let her go for way, way below the amount he has invested in it. He has more cars than he needs and this one must go.
