Vehicle Detail
This 1950’s style Hot Rod is a real eye catcher! If you are a business owner looking for a neat attention-getter for your company this little Pickup could fill the bill and provide a nice tax deduction as well. Up for bid is this Flathead V8 powered ’31 Ford Pickup that I have owned since 2003 when I purchased it from the builder, Bill Chapples of New Castle, Oklahoma. He acquired it from an owner in the dry plains of North Dakota who had restored it as a stock ’31 pickup and drove it as an Antique Vehicle. This is where it acquired the green paint that it still has. This paint was selected as a correct shade of green for Fords of that era. Mr. Chapples then converted it to a 50’s/60’s style resto rod, keeping the stock body and existing paint job while adding V8 power and the custom touches you now see on the vehicle. The all steel body is still painted green from approximately 23 years ago and the fenders (also steel) are black. The grille and shell are from 1932 with a Walker Radiator and Fan Shroud -which allows the car to run very cool, even in traffic or at idle. The nearly perfect 16 inch wire wheels are from 1935 and are fitted with Coker 6:50 X 16 front and 7:50 X 16 rear tires. Sealed beam headlights are in original Ford Script buckets mounted on a dropped bar. The truck has a boxed frame and Vega Cross Steering. The hydraulic drum brakes are from a 1956 Ford F-150. The front end has a 6 inch Dropped Tube Axle with Four-Bar Links and the rear suspension has Coil-Over Shocks with Four-Bar Links. Panhard Bars are installed front and rear. The powerplant is a 59AB block from 1946. It was completely rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago with new crank, rods, pistons and valve assembly etc. The cylinders are bored .080 over and the cam is an Isky Max 1 Street. The Stromberg 97’s were rebuilt by Charley Schwendler of Orchard Park NY, and they run terrific on an Offenhauser intake manifold. As can be seen in the photos, the Offy Aluminum Heads give this Rod just the right look to set off the whole package. The 12 volt electrics are powered by a Single Wire GM Alternator (the only part on the vehicle that is not Fomoco). The 12 volt battery sits in the bed and the wiring is under the seat. The transmission is a rebuilt C-4 Automatic using a Flathead Jack Flat-O-Matic Kit with a Ford Van column and shifter. The differential is an 8-inch Ford unit. The body and fenders are all Henry Ford Steel. The front & rear bumpers are in good condition. The hood is complete and has the proper braces to prop it up or it can be removed entirely to show off the cool looking Flathead V8 in all it’s glory. The older paint job is a correct green color for Ford and you will note a few cosmetic issues in the photos. There is some bondo in the doors as well as patch panels on the cab corners. This work was done properly at the time the restoration and painting took place with the North Dakota owner. The paint is crazed on right front fender and there are some chips in the paint on the hood. We have tried to show these areas in the pictures. Keep in mind that this vehicle was painted 23 or so years ago and it shows some age but it is basically very solid and the fenders are near flawless. –No dents! The interior looks good with black vinyl and green inserts –there are no tears or worn spots. The windshield folds out and the glass is all good except for some small cracks in the corners of the back glass. This truck sits right and drives right! It tracks straight down the road and has quick steering. The ride is firm and the juice brakes work well. The engine runs strong and cool in it’s mildly hopped up state and cruises very comfortably down the road @ 65 mph. We have documentation for all the major work done + photos of the various stages of rebuilding. E-mail with any questions and we will do our best to answer promptly. If you prefer to talk by phone, send us your number & a good time to call. In fairness to all bidders we do not disclose the reserve but any other questions are welcome. Please do not bid unless you are serious about owning this vehicle and are able to complete the sale as per the terms of the auction. Make sure that you have the necessary funds and that your spouse or parents or whomever have no objections or any other issues that would result in the inability to buy the truck at the agreed upon price. Vehicle may be inspected at our location near Waynesburg PA @ Exit 15 of I-79 approximately 50 miles south of Pittsburgh. We have a clear PA Title so this great little truck is ready to go for you! We can also help arrange shipping if desired. $500 Deposit is required within 48 hours of auction end and the balance is due in 7 days. PayPal is acceptable for deposit but the balance must be paid via secured funds or cash in person. THANKS FOR LOOKING & GOOD LUCK BIDDING!
