Vehicle Detail
This is not a 1954 but I listed it that way so people looking for that series of truck would find it. It is actually a 1955, 1st Series(same as 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953 & 1954 trucks), 3 ton (1.5 ton, 2 ton, 2.5 ton) 6400 Chevy Farm truck. In 1955 this size truck was made in two styles. It has a power take off to run the hoist to lift the grain box. It lifts and dumps! I believe it has the 235 cubic inch straight 6 engine. The 216 cubic inch was used in the smaller trucks of the same vintage. It has a 4 speed transmission and a two speed rear axle but I have never had such a heavy load on that I thought I needed it. Not positive the two speed axel works but have no indication it doesn't. I bought it on eBay from Southern, Minnesota. It starts, runs good and will go down the road. Antifreeze is clean, gear oils full & it doesn't seem to burn oil. The front tires are in okay condition. Two of the rear ties are new & the other two hold air and should get you around town. This has not been a daily driver but most weeks it is driven around town most of the last 3 years. After I bought it I replaced a cracked exhaust manifold, bought a carburetor for it and had it cleaned, rebuilt & replaced. I also added pickup side boxes to it on both sides. They work great to keep extra hydraulic fluid, brake fluid, oil, tarps, etc. The rear has dullies and I put a new tire on each side. They have less than 1,000 miles on them. I have put removable "barn doors" on the back of the box but still have the original grain box rear gate and it is included. It is licensed & insured and I have been using it around town for the last 3 years, hauling gravel, bringing stuff to the dump, hauling torn off shingles, etc. It has a 12 volt system & all of the gauges seem to work. The battery that is in it is good and starts it all winter. The body is in fair condition, see photos. The brakes & brake lights work well, head lights work, horn works, etc. I have it street legal for Iowa. I have just had the master cylinder rebuilt & brakes work good. I just removed all of the brake drums, loosened the brake adjustors, checked brakes, etc. It has lots of brakes left, will probably never need new brakes! As far as I know this truck is all stock(could have been 6 volt when it came out) and working. There is a short exhaust system on the truck. Doors close tight and windows roll up and down. All of the glass & mirrors are in good condition except a few scratches on the windshield from the wipers. None of them are cracked. This is a good old, functional truck. You can use it for work as it gets worth more instead of less. I wouldn't be selling but I am changing my truck line-up and it needs to be sold. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: This sale is "AS IS." If you want to see it, come, look, drive & inspect. Payment is DUE within 3 DAYS of your purchase. Pick up must be done within 14 DAYS. If payment is not made, I will open a case. If pick up is not scheduled on time, there will be a $10 storage fee per week. No refunds, no exceptions. This is necessary since I have limited space and can't hold the machines for non-paying customers. Please ask questions, I will do my best to answer but I am not a mechanic. This truck is for sale locally for the same "Buy it Now" price and the auction will be cancelled if I get an acceptable offer. Please don’t ask reserve price, if you want it, click the “Buy it Now.” Thanks for your understanding. SHIPPING: I will be glad to assist in loading & shipping but will not be responsible for quotes & cost. I wouln't hesitate to drive it a hundred miles myself. I am adding this the day after the auctions started. I just took the truck 5 miles out of town and back, 10 miles round trip, no problems. The original guages read: OIL PRESURE: on a 0 to 60 it stayed above 30 the whole time. TEMPERATURE: went up to about 1/3 and stayed there. AMMETER: Showed it was slightly charging. GAS GUAGE: works. The speedomter has quit working, not sure why. Thought I should let people know.On Jul-27-11 at 14:24:55 PDT, seller added the following information: I am adding this on Wed, 7/27/2011 just after 4:00 PM I have had some questions about the floor of the box, the two speed rear axle, etc. I have some photos that I would be glad to share. All you need to do is click the "ask a question" and send me your email address and I will send them to you. As for the floor to the box, I have cut a few bad spots out and filled back in. It is not fancy but it is functional. See photo. As for the 2 speed axle. I have tried to follow the linkage from the back of the switch box on the dash. It is a solid linkage that travels down under the cab to a valve. There are two lines that come out of the valve that go directly to what looks like a diaphragm on the side of the differential. I don't see that it is powered by an outside source of electric, air or hydraulic. I am wondering if the differential itself doesn't push gear oil through the hoses, etc a different direction or on & off to shift the gears when the valve is switched on way or the other. See photos that I will be glad to send. Again, I have never tried it, no guaranty on it. Also, since people were asking if the truck would make a 100 mile trip or longer, I changed the plugs, condenser, rotor & distributor cap. It runs stronger, no misses, etc than it ever has. It is tuned up and ready to go... Send email address for photos of tuneup.
