Vehicle Detail
1977 Ford Pinto 3-Door Runabout with Accent Stripe Group This is a RARE find! When people have asked me about the striping package, I've described it as "the inverted Starsky & Hutch". It's formally called the "Accent Stripe Group". The main color is known as "Polar White", coded 9D. Your 1977 Ford Pinto has a 2.3L, 4-cylinder engine with automatic transmission. It only has 75,969 miles. It actually has air conditioning, but the belt was disconnected around 1980 to make for better gas mileage; I would bet that if a new belt was put on it, you'd still draw cold air. It was purchased by my grandfather, Alpha Elmer Brown, brand new on June 9, 1977 in Niles, Michigan. It moved with him to Kirbyville, Missouri in the early 1990s and was brought back to Granger, Indiana a couple years before he passed in 2005. It was titled to me a couple years later. The car is nearly all original. It runs very well and is in great shape. I get people stopping me everywhere I go to ask about it. It has a stock AM radio, but doesn't work anymore. It has awesome vinyl seats with a matching pattern to the outside striping. The interior is in fantastic shape. The high beams are on the floor. The A/C controls are on the right side dash; I believe that Ford made A/C a virtual afterthought in 1977, but offered it as an option anyway. It also has a trailer hitch; my grandparents actually hooked up a pop-up camper to it twice a year for trips to Tulsa, Oklahoma to visit my extended family. As old as it is, it does have some minor issues. There is spotty rust, mostly around the edges of the metal in certain spots. There must be a short somewhere because it goes through solenoids like they are going out of style. I purchased a new headlamp switch assembly, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to install it...the switch is partially broken and the lights have to turned off by holding a screwdriver behind it before pushing in the knob. As stated before, the A/C should work if a belt is installed. The windows roll up and down just fine, but the roller handles will need to be replaced as the plastic knobs have been cracking and breaking. The trunk lid is unique in that it is a solid piece of glass with the hinges and trunk handle drilled right into the glass. However, the hydraulics for the trunk lid are failing; it will only stay open for about 8-10 seconds before it will fall, so I just usually hold it up continually with one hand when I need to get into the back. There is a crack in the windshield about 6-8 inches long. Finally, it will need a new muffler. Anyway, none of these are major issues that will keep the car from operating. The bottom line is that this is an awesome ride and a head-turner that is just a few weekend projects away from being a car worthy of taking to the local drive-in. It will be hard to part with it, but I am not as knowledgeable as its owner needs to be to maintain it at "antique" status; it deserves better. When you buy it, you will definitely be purchasing a piece of history. Questions? Email me at ckuesper@textfree.us or text your name & phone number to (260) 232-2973 and I'll call you back.
