Vehicle Detail

1971 Fiat Spider Every last nut and bolt restoration ($11,000 spent) Rebuilt engine (2006) (3,000+ miles since) Excellent daily driver. All mechanical systems work well. All electrical systems work well. All instruments work well. NO RUST 35-40 mpg NEW: Paint Oil seals Axle boots Radiator Hoses Belts Battery Tires UPGRADED: Starter wiring (#2 gauge, a significant improvement over original). Heater plumbed with copper line (prevents common dangerous failure of original steel lines which rust over time.) Weber carburetor is trouble-free European series replacing problematic American anti-pollution spec which often caused idling issues. Electronic turn-signal flasher. Battery disconnect switch for long term storage. INTERIOR and TRIM Upgraded seat upholstery and carpets. Custom-built wire wheels unavailable on American imported cars. Mostly new chrome. New seat belts. New convertible hood EXTRAS: Original tool kit Tonneau cover ISSUES: Speedometer cable is now making a buzzing noise, needs replacement Heater switch not now working. I think a wire became disconnected under the dash. (I've never used the heater.) Radio now not playing, again, I think due to an underdash wire being knocked loose. Choke cable is stiff. It works, but it could stand to be replaced. Windshield has some pits, and is a candidate for renewal, though not absolutely necessary. (Windshields available nationwide.) HISTORY: This car has always been stored inside, and when I stripped it for restoration, I found only two rust areas. The first was the battery tray which had rotted out. I cut out the original, fabricated a new tray, and welded it in. The second area was a 1/2" (12mm) hole in the rocker panel behind the passenger door. This was cut out, and new metal welded in. NO other rust areas anywhere. The car is driven monthly to Italian car club events and has a few very tiny paint blemishes due to normal driving. It is stored inside ALWAYS and never goes out in the rain. This is a 40 year old car that has been very well, and lovingly, restored, but it is not new, nor is it a Pebble Beach contender. It is a beautiful driver that turns lots of heads due to its design, paint/interior scheme, bright chrome, and rarity. I recently competed in the Corsa Rossa "Moonshine Rally" which was over 200 miles (May, 2011.) The car drove flawlessly. The car and I are well known in the North Carolina based Corsa Rossa Car Club ( http://corsarossa.com/ ), and you are invited to inspect the car and drive it prior to the auction closing. SHIPPING: You could drive this car cross country if you chose. If you fly into the Greensboro Airport (Piedmont Triad International), I will meet you (no charge) and you can drive this car home. If you want this car shipped overseas, I will help deliver it (small charge) to the shipping port at either: Norfolk / Newport News, Virginia, or Wilmington / Jacksonville, North Carolina. If you send a truck to pick it up, I will help load it for free. REASON FOR SELLING: I am about to retire shortly, and will build a custom car. I simply need the space in my garage. Wm. One if of the engine compartment, and the other is the Corsa Rossa Italian car club event I attended tonight. You see some club members examining the car. (www.corsarossa.com)
