"" SUPER PRICE FOR RARE CAR "" "GREAT 440 POWERED MOBLIE DIRECTOR 1 OF 72" This beautiful all original Imperial Crown Coupe is a very unique classic luxury car with the very rare "Mobile Director" option. This is a great deal for ANY resto project a great shape 2dr 67 with a good 440. Before I purchased the car in July of 04 a late Mr. Doran who was a collector/rodder/car show man of Mopars, Vetts, and 30's Ford roadsters. What provenance I know about this car was told to me by Mr. Doran. He related that a doctor in Newark OH had purchased the car new, then offered it for sale in the 80's, and was purchased by a friend. Then sometime in 96 or 97 was purchased by Mr. Doran during which time he replaced the exhaust with duals [glasspacks] and tuned up, points, plugs, and wires. He also repainted the original factory sun yellow/gold. During these first 37 years the car was garage kept. I purchased the car in 04 and have had the car covered. I drove it to a couple of shows at my place of work. Has had only 3K put on it in the last 14 years. It hasn't been driven in a couple of years, but it runs and idles nicely, and sounds great! Its loaded with AC,PB,PW,PS, P Seat,Cruise,AutoDimmer, Leather. It's a rare "Mobile Director" model. No one seems to know exactly how many 67's came with this option, possible 1 of 72, but they are very rare. Possibly ordered by dealerships to have on display. Some quotes from the Imperial club website: "Mobile Director was an option that included the following features: -A front passenger seat (bucket) that could rotate (swivel) 180 degrees around to face the rear seat (it did not adjust fore-aft). -A folding wood-grained table that mounted on a large chrome post (similar to a conversion van table) on the driveshaft hump in the rear-seat foot-well area. The table was split so it folded in half lengthwise, and one half was fitted underneath with an upholstered pad that, when folded over, became a padded center armrest for the front seat. Or both front seats could have slim, wood-grain tabletops running down the center of the car or, most important of all, rotate the table and the two right-hand passengers (front and rear) could have a tabletop between them (when the front seat was facing the rear seat). - Finally, a high-intensity gooseneck desk-type lamp plugged into the right rear cigarette lighter socket [missing, aftermarket available], and you had a rolling conference table, so the executive could give dictation to his stenographer. "The Mobile Director was an option package for the 1967 and 68 Imperials - specifically for the Crown Coupe only. The special order package cost $597.40 on a $6000 car one of the main reasons for its rarity and converted the Crown Coupe into a rolling office. The idea was that the boss could sit in the back and do paperwork, or take a secretary along, who would sit in the front seat facing rearward, to take dictation, or even do typing, as featured in the photos of the brochure. It had previously been featured on a one off 66 for the Detroit Auto Show. There are no exact production numbers for this option, but I'm sure all would agree that it is incredibly rare. I can't imagine anyone actually ordering this $597.40 ($317.60 in '68) option. The examples that were produced were probably ordered by dealerships as novelties to put in their showrooms. Here is a must see video on youtube advertising the New 67 "Mobile Director" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqLyRLgU8o8 Ok first the good all the chrome is good to great. with the bumpers dent free. Has dummy spot lights. One of the headlight "eyelids" has a film of rust, but have a brand new set. All the glass is clear and windshield is tinted. The pot-metal grill is in great complete shape, as are all the plastic lenses, with the front running lights as nice as they come. And I love the long red tail lights all lit up. The body is ding and dent free with the hood and truck lid being exceptional. The quarter panels have no bad waves. The hood and door alignment is very good with the doors shutting with the latches clicking like new. The black leather landau top has no holes or tears, but loves son of a gun etc. to bring up shine. The hub caps are dent free and shine well. Paint has a very nice shine and finish is good, with a few exceptions around the windshield post and a quarter size spot on the roof. The interior wood is complete and looks good, but could be made excellent with a refinish. The leather is in great shape with the back seats like new, being an optional M3E antique gold/black. The drivers seat is power works but moves slow. Has had cassette player put in, sits behind wood door on dash [have original with seek don't know if it works]. The 440 engine is 350hp model and runs good, had a new carb, and valve cover gaskets as well as the tune up with wires in 2002, the exhaust was done in 98. Have all receipts for this work Mr. Doran had done. The bad, the bias ply tires have very good tread but need aired up, the right rear shows cracks from sitting but all hold air. Their has been body work on fender around where fender skirts go on [bondo 'tap tested'] but work is solid, and looks good. When I got the car drivers interior door panel had taken off to fix power window, passenger side works but is slow, have the pieces panel motor etc. The drivers seat stitching is pulled apart [material away from leather not torn] see pic. The trunk pan drivers side has a hole [pic] with passenger side being weakening. Small surface rust in a few places other wise is "TOTAL RUST FREE" all lower body panels frame are excellent, like you would expect from a clean garaged kept car, but is rare in a 45 year old MOPAR. The 727 transmission pump is out, have genuine mopar parts heavy duty [dodge power wagon] replacement, does not pull in any gear, maybe linkage, but definitely not burned up, fluid clear and smell free, had all gears and then none. Indicated to me a bad pump. So will need to be trailered, rollbacked, or towed. Believe the very good out weighs the little bad.
