Vehicle Detail
This is a good old (tough as nails) 1988 1500 4X4 Chevy Suburban. They really don’t make them like this anymore. A lot of people say this was the era of the strongest and toughest Suburbans ever built. A quick look at the frame, and running gear under one of these things shows you why. Haul you family in a tank! This one belonged to one of my best friends, but he suddenly (very unexpectedly) passed away a few months ago. His widow asked me to help sell it for her. She has no need for it, and I already have one similar to it myself, or I would just buy it (I love these Suburbans). This one has the old standby GM 350 V8 and auto transmission. The 4X4 and everything that makes it go and stop all seems to work great. Please understand that this was never my vehicle, so I don’t know everything about it, but I do know from the title that it had 97,210 miles on it when they bought it in 1993. It shows 35,280 now, so I guess that’s really 135,280? It did sit a lot at his house (he had other vehicles to drive). I think it’s in too good a shape for it to be 235,280 (and not smoking, etc) – unless he put a new motor in it, and I don’t remember him ever doing that (we’re guys. We talked about mechanical stuff). He just drove it when he needed it. “The good” is it’s a solid old Suburban, and everything mechanical seems to work. “The bad” is it could use a paint job, and it looks like there was a fender bender (maybe backed into something) at one time around the driver’s side tail light, and it wasn’t really fixed like I would like. It’s there, and works fine, but needs the chrome trim, and etc. The air blows, but not cold. I noticed that the heater core is bypassed, so I suspect that means it needs a new heater core (about $60 new here on eBay). The seats are good, but not perfect. He had dual exhaust put on it, and it has a deep throaty sound. I noticed it runs a little funny (kind of lopes a bit) when you first crank it up, but does fine going down the road, and what little I drove it. I don’t know if it needs a tune up, or???? The ignition key works fine, but the little chrome trim thing around it came off. The piece is there. I don’t know if you can put it back on – like I said it works fine without it, but if you wanted it back on, and can’t make the old one stay on, then a whole new GM Key Switch Lock with 2 new keys is only about $15 here on eBay. One great thing about these vehicles is the Suburbans, K-5 Blazers, and Pickup Trucks (both Chevy and GMC) all used the same parts, and they made millions of them, so parts are easy to find and reasonable. It wouldn’t be hard to make this a first rate Suburban again (just a little TLC here and there). I just don’t have the time. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I’ll do my best to answer, but understand, it wasn’t mine. I’m just doing right by my buddy, and helping out his widow here. She needs the money. I do have the clear “signed over” title to it in my hand.
