Vehicle Detail
Those of you who follow my auctions know that I am a physical therapist here in Tucson, AZ. Due to the fact that I deal with a lot of retired and elderly population, I am able to come across some of the cleanest cars in the country and many times they are one owner cars. Through a series of events I was able to aquire this very clean, low mile Samurai. Although it is not a one owner car, it has been mostly in the same family since new and has been very well cared for. I will outline the car in more detail below: HISTORY: I was not able to get much history on the Samurai as I bought it from the first person who had owned it outside of the original family so I wasn't able to ask a lot of questions like I normally do. What I did find out was that the original owner was a retired Vietnam Vet who bought the Samurai to tow behind his RV. I believe he bought it in New Mexico. He had some physical limitations that made him require power stearing to be able to drive more comfortably. The AC compressor was sacrificed in favor of a power stearing pump very early on in this Samurai's life. When he passed, the Samurai was given to another family member and then passed on to other family members, but no one really had any use for the Samurai and so it was eventually sold to a young couple in Yuma who bought it for the mother to drive. Problem was she did not know how to drive a stick shift and so they decided to sell the Samurai after she gave up trying. EXTERIOR: All original paint with 100% rust-free body and undercarriage. The paint does still have a good shine to it but it does have some chips and minor dings in the body as you would expect from a 21 year-old car. The right front fender may have had some battery acid lightly splashed on it (common on these samurais) and there are some spots of discoloration on that fender but hard to see unless you get up close (see pics). The front bumper has the tow bar mounts still in place and the Samurai is wired for towing lights as you can see. This is a hard top model and it has a two piece hard top that is in good shape. The top is white. One piece covers the two front passengers and it can be left on independent of the other piece which covers the rear seat and cargo area. The hard top does have a rear hatch door but the shocks that hold the door up will need to be replaced. There are two small cracks in the glass on the hard top but structurally it is fine the way it is. The front right turn signal lense is cracked and should be replaced at some point and they do make this part and it is inexpensive. All doors lock and open and shut very solid with good alignment. There is no clear coat peeling or oxidization of the original paint. All exterior lights work as they should.Very nice original wheels with beauty rings. Spare tire is in good shape and the other four tires are in very good shape and are Toyo A/Ts with 80% tread life left. INTERIOR: The interior on this Samurai is very clean and unmolested. Original capet is in great shape, although the carpet for the rear cargo area is missing as is the carpet that goes over the rear wheel wells. These pieces are often removed from these Samurais because they tend to come loose and just get in the way. The seats have the original upholstery with the exception of the driver's seat bottom which has been recovered in a sllightly different material than the original. The passenger's seat has one small tear, about 1/2 inch, on the outside bottom near the reclining lever and another small tear on the upper inside part of the seat (see pic). Overall, the original upholstery is still in great shape. It has a older Kenwood cassette deck that does not work. I didn't worry about it because most people who buy these will upgrade to a modern unit. Everything else works as it should including, heater, fan, turn signals, horn, all dash lights, windows and door locks. As mentioned earlier, this Samurai came from the factory with AC but the engine compartment components were removed in favor of a power stearing set up. All the under dash hardware remains and appears functional. The AC light will light up when the button is depressed and nothing appears to have been disturbed. So if you are looking to hook up the AC you would only need the compressor, lines, brackets etc. All the original wiring is still there for the compressor. The AC in these newer model Samurais is far superior to the earlier Samurais and they are pretty efficient at cooling the car without draining all the power from the engine. I think it would be worth it to get the parts and hook it back up. Just my opinion. Others may prefer the power stearing. MECHANICAL: This Samurai comes with the very desireable 1.3L EFI engine that runs great. It does not smoke, leak or burn any fluids. Easily cruises at 65-70 mph. Accelerates great and shift through the gears flawlessly. All 4WD components work very well with no issues. I have never had one of these with power stearing on it, so it does seem to stear too easy, but I guess that is the point of the power stearing. I'm just used to having to muscle these things a little but there will be no need to do that on this rig. There are no real mechanical issues to warn you about with this truck. The mileage is very low at 91k miles and it does drive like a low mile truck. It runs cool even in our 110 degree weather over here. I would feel very comfortable driving this anywhere. SUMMARY: Great looking and running Samurai with very low miles and lots of life left. Comes with original owner's manual and two sets of keys. You will look long and hard before you find another EFI model in this kind of shape. Check my feedback and the pictures and bid with confidence.
