Vehicle Detail
Those of you who follow my auctions know that I am a physical therapist here in Tucson Arizona and I deal quite a bit with the elderly and retired population. This gives me a very unique opportunity to find some of the cleanest, unmolested and often times one owner vehicles. This 4Runner is no exception. Through a series of events I was able to purchase this beautiful truck and I am now making it available to all you first generation 4Runner enthusiasts. I will outline the truck in detail below. HISTORY: Since 1987 until a few months ago this 4Runner was owned by a single female owner. She bought it as a student at college in the San Diego area. It stayed in Southern California it's whole life until I drove it to Tucson a few weeks ago. It was always maintained by one mechanic and garaged through it's life. There were no pets or kids in this 4Runner and it shows. It was never smoked in and the lighter looks brand new as does the ash tray. Other than the wheels being changed from original, this 4Runner is unmolested and certainly unabused. I do have an original set of wheels that will go with this 4Runner. This truck was babied it's whole life and this is the way you want to find them! It also comes with the orginal window sticker showing the purchase location in San Diego and the options and purchase price - very cool to have with the truck. EXTERIOR: The original white paint shines very nicely. There are only a few, very minor dings in the body and absolutely 100% RUST FREE. There is minor damage to the molding that runs under the doors on the drivers side, looks like it may have been kicked and dinged. There are some minor chips and scratches but the truck looks beautiful and there is no major damage, just normal wear type items. No oxidization in the paint. Top is perfect all around. The top has NEVER been off this 4Runner! All four original mud flaps are in great shape. Rear tube bumper is straight and clean but is missing one of the plastic end pieces. I am currently trying to locate one to pop in there. Front chrome grill and bumper look great. All factory skid plates are in place. All glass is clear and nearly perfect. Some very minor scratches in the rear window only. All doors and the tailgate open and shut perfectly with no issues. Even the factory pin striping looks great. The original owner had, installed by the dealer, the little key protectors that go around the exterior locks to prevent you from scratching the paint when you put your key in the locks. I though about removing those but decided to keep it on there since it was a dealer installed item 21 years ago, kinda neat. All weatherstripping is very soft and seals well. No leaking in this 4Runner that I could see anywhere. INTERIOR: The interior on this 4Runner is in amazing shape. The back seat, side panels and carpet show no wear at all. Looks as if no one ever used the rear passenger area. All seatbelts are perfect. There is some minor wear on the passenger seat but it is still in great shape and the passengers front carpet looks new still. The drivers seat of course has the most wear but it still looks good but has one seam that is beginning to slightly pull apart. This could be resown at an upolstery shop but it's not to that point yet. Front driver's carpet shows only minor wear. Dash is perfect with no cracking or fading. Comes with a dash cover that is in great shape. Both door panels look nearly perfect. No fading of the plastic parts that you would normally expect to see. Rear cargo area looks almost new with very minimal wear at all. Headliner in both the shell and the cab is perfect. Still has the factory cardboard instructions in the drivers sun visor (that has to be very rare to survive this long). Original jack and tools appear to have never been used and are in their original places. As far as options, this was not a fully loaded truck, but is exactly the way many of us like to find them - with no power windows or locks (these items will wear out and eventually need to be replaced which is not only expensive, but labor intensive). It does, of course, have the power window in the tailgate that can be operated with a key on the outside or a switch on the center consule. It works perfectly. AC blows very cold and it will freeze you out even on a 106 degree Arizona day! The fan has four settings from low to high but it only works on setting 3 and 4 (which is medium high and the highest setting). Heater is HOT. All guages work perfectly as do all lights, horn, wipers, turn signals etc. Everything works except to two slow speeds of the fan. Clock keeps perfect time. The original AM/FM stereo works great (haven't checked the cassette deck as I don't have any cassettes) and all the buttons are bright and show no wear. Windows roll up and down smoothly and all locks work well. It does have a Clifford alarm system installed but I do not have the remote for it so in currently is inoperable. I have the fuse to the alarm out otherwise it will go off. It will need to be taken to a shop to have a remote set up for it again before you can use the alarm. In case you are not familiar with the seating configuration of the 4Runner, the rear seats do fold down to increase storage space. Overall it is in beautiful shape inside and is a real pleasure to drive. MECHANICAL: At last the best part! The truck has only one issue that I know of mechanically and that is a very slow drip under the rear differential. It is leaking from the drain plug and needs a new O ring or seal installed. I'm sure I will get to that before the auction is over and refill it with fresh gear oil. That's the only issue, if you want to call it an issue. It has the ultra desireable 22R EFI engine that has been commonly found to go 300k miles or more without a problem. It leaks nothing, burns nothing, runs perfectly, stops perfectly and is tight and true as the day it was new. AC compressor was just rebuilt and the whole system gone through (have receipts). Runs very cool even when I drove it from CA to AZ and got stuck in traffic in Phoenix while the outside temp was 106 degrees. Stayed cool and the AC was freezing. Tires have probably 60% treadlife all around and the spare is still brand new. Oil was just changed and air filter and fuel filter changed. Transmission shifts perfectly with no issues. All 4WD components work flawlessly. It really does drive tight, like a new truck. I feel confident that you could fly in and drive this home anywhere on the planet with no issue and get great gas mileage along the way. SUMMARY: A rare find, first generation, one owner 4 Runner with tons of life left and in fantastic condition. This truck will make any Toyota or off road enthusiast proud to own. Talk about a great investment, these are getting harder and harder to find in this condition and they will keep creeping up in value as the supply dries up. No it doesn't have the solid front axle, but that swap could be made rather easily and then you would really have something special. But to me this one is pretty special as she is, all original and pretty darn nice. If you find one cleaner then you better buy it. I may be selling locally so I do reserve the right to end this auction at anytime. There is a $500 deposit due within 48 hours of the close of the auction payable through paypal. Check my feedback, check the autocheck form and bid with confidence. Good luck! Also people are asking what I am selling this for locally. I am just advertising it for best offer.
