Up for auction is this 1977 Mercedes Benz 450 SL Roadster with 78k miles. The exterior is silver with red and black interior. It has air conditioning, power windows, and cruise control. The interior was recently redone and looks great. I recently put in a new alternator, starter, and battery. The soft top is in good condition and the hard top is also included and is removable. I have receipts on file for the maintenance and updates the car has had. The body is in good condition with NO holes and the rocker panels are solid. It has a strong running motor and smooth transmission. I am letting the Mercedes go to someone who wants a fun convertible for cruising. It is not perfect and this is why my asking price is low for someone willing to put a little work into it. Things worth noting……. The odometer stopped working at 78k miles, which I have past paperwork to show that this was not long ago, meaning this is close to the original miles. The odometers stop working in most of these older SL’s because the odometer gears made by Mercedes are soft and wear out over time. To do it yourself it would cost $70 for the new gears and they are not difficult to put in. The odometer is the only issue and the speedometer works fine. The hard top is in excellent condition except for a crack in the rear glass window, but it does not leak. If you plan on driving mostly in the summer days there is no need to fix this. The passenger side window will not go down. Not sure what the problem is. The wipers motor stays on, so I just pulled the fuse because I only drive it in the summer and don’t need the wipers. Needs a new sun visor clip to keep the visor up, which is an inexpensive item you can buy on Ebay. There is a crack in the dash, which you can buy a 450SL dash cover for. .
