Vehicle Detail
Offered in this auction is this nice vintage 1986 Chevrolet El Camino. We purchased this car from a local estate. It was in the garage with a cover thrown over it, no battery and just a bit of gasoline in it. My husband purchased a battery and put some high grade gas in and it started right up! Come to find out, it had a non-op on it for the last 11 years! The owner knew to put it in the correct condition for storage. Unfortunately, there was no paperwork or instruction manual. I guess the estate people had so many files and papers they just had a shredding company take care of it. It looks very original to me. I think that most of the paint is original and that the front quarter panel and the hood might have been repainted, but not within the last 12 years. The exterior is 2-tone "Raiders" black and silver. There is only a couple on dings and slight scratches on the back end and a dime size paint chip on the front passenger side by the hood. The hood is also in very nice condition with only tiny road paint chips on the front edge as pictured. The bumper and fender have lots of chrome. The back bumper does have some rust, but that should easily polish out. The top of the cab is a matte silver which helps to keep it a little cooler inside. The matte silver runs all the way down the sides at the bottom, which does not show the road dirt as much as it would on the black. The doors are heavy and close nicely. The front windshield is nice and clear and not cracked anywhere. The metal apron that is at the bottom of the windshield (where the wipers rest) is rusting, as the paint is coming off. I tried to take a good photo of that, but it is hard because of the glare of the windshield. One headlight is cracked, but they work fine. The tires are P205/70R14 and are at least 12 years old. I did not get new tires because I could not decide on what size to get. These tires look like new, but they are not a smooth ride. I would not take them on the freeway. They have the chrome circle rings and a separate star hubcap. There are 6 star hubcaps and 2 gold center hubcaps all together. Every time I drive it, people (especially you guys!) always stop me and ask about it. It is a super nice looking car/truck! When you have to describe something, it always seems worse in writing than it really is. Now, for the interior. The first thing that I did, was to have the headliner recovered professionally. He did not do the visors, but they match and they work. The steering wheel has a new cover. The drivers seat had the orange cord showing on the outside edge and I happened to have some sheepskin seat covers that worked pretty good on the split 60/40 bench seat with fold down arm rest. I was very pleased with those! I replaced the drivers electric window switch and it controls both windows. The drivers electric door lock does not work, but the passengers side switch does. The passengers side window switch also works. The dash does have a couple of cracks, but I do have a dash cover that is not an exact fit, but it works just fine. The rest of the dash is clean as a tack with nice clear instrument panel and a clean radio and temperature control panel. A/C was recharged last year with a new fan clutch. The interior does not smell like smoke and in my opinion, it has not been smoked in. The back window has a nice curve to it and is also very clean. All the rubber seems fine to me. Cute little side windows! Lots of storage behind the seats and the spare tire is inside behind the passenger. This easily passed California smog. New muffler, speedometer cable, master cylinder for brakes, and new exhaust manifold gasket on drivers side. Again, this is a V8-305 5.0L Conquista SS. Power windows, power locks, tilt, cruise, am/fm stereo with cassette (which I never tried) and the 60/40 seats. But wait! A Bonus! Included is a white topper that is made to fit an El Camino. All of this for the low starting price of $5,000.00. No reserve. Just bid. There are not many of these around anymore, especially that look this nice and with the low I want to finish by saying that my mechanic and the California DMV have both told me that the mileage stated on the emissions test is probably wrong. On 1-31-98 it stated that the mileage was 241,037. That would mean 241,000 miles were put on in the first 12 years, which is highly unlikely. In 1999 it had the non-op put on it, and it was not driven for 11 years. Since I have had it for the last year, I have put less than 100 miles on it as I also had it stored. So it makes sense that the original mileage in 1-31-1998 was 41,037. Now it has 48,239 miles. My mechanic that did all the new work on this said that it is definitely original miles. The whole condition of this El Camino supports this, and I will guarantee that it is original miles. I do my best to list a complete description of what I see. Some buyers have posted positive feedback stating that the item was better than described, and I describe the items to the best of my ability. Non smoking home. No reserve. I try to have a low starting price, but anymore, I can't take the chance of something selling for less than I have in it. There is still the thrill of the auction and as a seller, it is really nice to get bids on my items before the last day! To be fair to all, I will not end any auction early if it has bids. If there are no bids by the last day, I reserve the right to take the item off the auction. If you are interested, Bid Now! Thanks! On Jun-07-11 at 10:27:27 PDT, seller added the following information:*****Please Note*****I was looking for the receipt for the battery that we purchased 4/24/10 and found the original blue 1986 OWNERS MANUAL and the battery receipt. There is also a large "Original Parts Group" catalog from the previous owner. Good thing to have for reference. Thanks for looking!
