Vehicle Detail

I have priced this truck in the spirit of the auction style format at NO RESERVE with a minimal opening bid for this truck!!! 1970 International Scout 800A 4x4 with 304 cubic inch V-8 and automatic transmission with power brakes. I bought this Scout from my Brother in Eugene, Oregon in Late 2004. He owned it about 4 or 5 years before that. He bought it from a guy in Eastern Oregon (Dry Climate) and that is where it was sold new from what he was told. I believe its true because of the rust on the truck, it has some, but not even close to what the mid west and east coast trucks have. That guy said he was the third owner of the truck and that the miles were actual. He also said he had the top end freshened when he owned it as well, but I cannot verify either statement other than to say the fact that how much rust and where is on the truck is a good indication it could be true. Along with the fact that every light(except reverse/back-up lights) and gauge works on the truck too. The original floor coverings and door panels are there too with little wear and the original brake and accelerator peddle have wear consistent with what I believe is less than 100,000 miles also. But again I cant verify it for sure. But I have owned several IH's and classic cars and know what these old iron's look like under 100K.My brother and I drove this Scout 2,600 miles from Eugene,OR to Central Illinois in March of 2005. It didnt miss a beat until we went through the high altitude of the pass through the rockies and I think the carb blew a seal or something like that. It started bogging down at the high altitude and would only go about 15 -20 miles an hour. Once we got down the mountain it ran ok with the exception of trying to accelerate to hard and fast. If you tried that it would bog down some through the carb until you raised your foot up off the accelerator some. We it drove that way from about 50 miles west of Denver to Illinois and never had a problem other than the bogging as described before. The 4X4 works great in both high and low and the lock outs work smoothly.I had all the brakes re-done and all wheel cylinders before the trip at Mr. Scout in Eugene,OR. He also installed a Factory full roll bar that I picked up along with 3 point seat belts that are attached above the shoulder on the roll bar and at the floor. I also had a new fuel pump installed as well that run the vacuum wipers. I had the bright idea of putting in more comfortable seats for the long trip and found a set out of a Mustang II. They weren't quite what I hoped for but the originals Low Backs go with the truck. The rear seat is there too and is in great shape. I have the receipt that shows all of this work and It was almost $1500 for all the work they did.Mechanically the truck runs great. It runs and stops as it should and starts ok. But I think maybe a new starter may be in order. When we had the carb problem in the Rockies it was hard to start sometimes the rest of the trip, but not all the time. So I don't know if its related or the starter just started getting weak by coincidence on its own. As I said EVERY light works on the truck except the reverse/back up lights, corrosion got to the innards. I have a new set somewhere and if I find them they go with the truck too. It has dual tanks and both sending units work. All gauges work. It has great oil pressure too. The dash lights and map light on the dash even work. The wipers work as they should and the heat works along with the dual speed fan. The windows roll up and down smoothly. I went through the regulators before the trip. The original Radio is in there but it doesn't work, I don't know if its unhooked or not, it had an aftermarket one on the floor at one time but it is gone now. Cigarette lighter works and the horn works. It has a heavy duty Bumper on the rear with a 2" receiver built in with Brake controller and 7 prong and 4 prong trailer light plugs. It also has a U shaped tow point built in to the bottom of the rear bumper too. It also has lockable dual gas caps. My brother had the carb re-built shortly before I bought it so it was fine until the high Altitude. He also had the air cleaner and Valve covers powder coated IH red along with new gaskets installed. The doors open and shut great with no drop when opening like a lot of these IH's do. It IS missing the front IH logo on the hood. The guy who had it before my brother(the claimed 3rd owner) had it repainted and some light Bondo work done on the lowers where the rust shows now.(light enough that I never noticed it) When I bought the truck there were no rust bubbles at all in that area, but obviously there was some there that started to come back.(See Pics) I never drove the truck in the winter here. So its never yet been subjected to salt on the roads. The other rust is inside the engine bay on the passenger side of the dog house where the hood meets the top of the front fender.(see pic) It has some small rust through areas in the toe board and floor boards in both fronts(see pics) and a little on the inside drivers vertical panel next to the drivers foot well next to the dimmer switch. But this is minimal for sure compared to others out there. I had planned to use Por-15 to seal the rust top and bottom and fiberglass the small areas. The front cowl area has some cracks in the paint and primer that has pulled up(see pic) but no rust through. There are some scratches here and there in the paint and a few dull areas on the doors and around but it presents nicely when cleaned up. The wheels need new beauty rings as they are rusted badly. but you can repaint them if you don't want to replace them. The 31x 10.5/ 15 tires that are on the truck are studded, and they have lots of tread and are in great shape. The spare does not go with the truck, I am keeping it with the other set of tires/wheels I have for it for another rig. I may be able to part with that set of 5 wheels /tires for another $600. This is a great truck and as you know they are getting harder to find in this condition especially with the V-8 engine. If you like these old rigs you wont be disappointed. I never had the issues with the Carb and starter fixed because like so many of my toys I had three kids and my toys didnt get the attention they deserved. I probably put less than 500 miles on it since I have owned it. I did drain the old gas out of both tanks and fuel pump, then flushed them before starting it with new gas, as it has sat for a little while. I am only selling this sweet rig because I am thinning the herd to make room for a new project. Check out my 1954 Ranch wagon in my other auction too, along with a 2005 Land Rover LR3.Now for the legal stuff: Clear title in my hand and free and clear ready to be signed over to the winner. This vehicle has no warranty written or implied and is being sold as-is.I will work with your shipper or if you are brave like we were, Fly in and drive it home. I would rather you trailer it because of the starter and carb issues but as I said I drove it about 13 hours this way from west of Denver. But I would be happy to meet you if you fly in at Champaign(CMI), Bloomington(BMI) or Springfield(SPI) airports for $50 for gas. They are all 50-70 miles from me.Terms of sale...NO Scammers, No Tire Kickers, You win, you buy. Ask your Bank,Wife, Dog, Goldfish or any other entity who may object to your purchase before you bid.
