Vehicle Detail
For sale is my 1999 Pontiac Grand Am. It is a 4 door with a 6 Cylinder engine. Automatic. It has been good to me but I am moving to Manhattan so I no longer will require its’ services.I am going to be as thorough as possible in my description to ease your bidding. The car recently failed a NYS inspection for 2 reasons. The rear brake cylinders need to be replaced and the front tie rods need to be replaced to pass. The car passed the emissions portion of the test with no problems. The car has 165,000 miles on it. The engine was replaced about 30,000 miles ago from a car (also a 99 grand am) with 70,000 miles on it. So the current engine has about 100,000 miles on it give or take. This work was done by a professional of course. The car runs good and other than replacing the engine I haven’t had any major problems with it. The transmission goes from gear to gear very smoothly. The car has a brand new Sony CD player and Rockford Fosgate Speakers in the front. I removed the rear speakers because I like the sound better without them. All the connections are still in tact so if you desire you can easily drop a set of 6 X 9” speakers in the rear. There are a few general things wrong with the car. Most of the problems are common with Pontiac's of this age. Here is the list:: The following dashboard lights are on: ABS / Brake / Washer Fluid. The ABS and Brake lights are on because the rear cylinders need to be replaced as I stated above. The front rotors and brakes were replaced 500 miles ago so they are in good condition. The car over heats slightly from time to time. It usually will only overheat when stuck in traffic, but once you get moving it will level back off. I think it might be the thermostat but I never had it checked by a mechanic so I that is just a guess. The washer fluid does not work because the hose has disconnected from the tank and a new hose or elbow connector will be needed if you want to use the washer fluid. The pump still works, it's just the hose that separated from the tank. The REAR driver side window is permanently secured in the up position. The previous owner secured it in this position because it was falling off the track. The other 3 power windows work good. The heat / AC work but it only blows out on level 5 (the highest level). When you put the heat on level 5 it blows out strong. The AC does need a recharge though because it doesn't get cold. The gas gauge is a bit screwy. It's not accurate. I don't know if it's the gauge or a sensor. I just filled her up once a week and never had a problem with it. The passenger side view mirror is secured on with glue and 2 screws. It has been like this since I purchased the car and I haven’t ever had to mess with it. See the pic above. It has to be adjusted manually. Aesthetically the car is what you would expect from a 1999. The exterior is bruised up on the passenger side from a fender bender (see pics). The passenger side skirt came loose during this accident so I removed it for safety. If you want it I will include it with the car of course. After the accident, I had the car inspected by a body shop that deemed the damage was only aesthetic and the car was still safe to drive. The right headlight has some duct tape to seal the top and stop water from getting in. It is only visible when you pop the hood. The engine isn’t the cleanest, but it’s to be expected from a 12 year old car. Of course the body has nicks and scratches and dings and dents and such. The interior is in better condition than the exterior. The seats have no tears or rips. The vinyl on the dashboard is a little warped (from the sun?) and the defroster vent plastic is cracked. Of course the interior also has it's share of nicks and imperfections. The trunk only opens with the key. The button inside the car does not open the trunk. The original spare is included but it needs to be professionally inflated because the tire is not sealed to the rim. I don't think it was ever used though. The car is missing all 4 hubcaps. Personally I like the look better so when two fell off, I went bare wheels. The car is missing one lug nut on the rear passenger side tire. I am selling this car as is. The reason I took my time with this extensive list of problems is because I only want to get what is fair and honest value for it. The car obviously has it's share of imperfections and I am selling it as such. I have listed everything that I know is wrong with the car but I am not a mechanic. The car could use a tune up and definitely needs some work. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. If there is anything you want a photograph of that you don't see above, let me know. The sale is final. No returns. I am moving to Manhattan and need to get rid of it. Thanks for Bidding! On May-26-11 at 12:47:20 PDT, seller added the following information: I wanted to add that you can get to my house by the Long Island Rail Road. You can take the Babylon branch to Lindenhurst and I will gladly meet you there with the car.
