Moving to a smaller place, selling our 1968 Volkswagen Bus- "The Rustic Safari" This is a very very early bay window bus. As you probably know 1968 was the first year of the big windshield and this one was originally sold in October of 1967 here in Portland, Oregon at Riviera Motors. Considering the shipping from Germany, this must be one of the very first bay window busses to roll off the line. I drove this bus for the last year daily. Took it on a 1k mile road trip in march. This is not a show car, it is simply a well loved, pretty well maintained, and very well used bus with lots of life and charm left for the next owner. Pros- Newer more powerful 1600cc dual port engine Engine compression test was excellent at 150lbs on all 4 cylinders, (engine end play is within spec also) wipers work, (I replaced the wiper motor and switch) dome lights and signals and emergency flashers are working. (new expensive special 68 flasher relay) Brake lights work New tail light assemblies on both sides with new lenses (no more loose connections!) New Brakes, including shoes, rebuilt all wheel cylinders, replaces all 4 rubber brake lines, AND NOS GERMAN HARD-TO-FIND (EXPENSIVE!) EARLY1968 ONLY emergency brake cables! very very little rust for the year, tinted windows make it much cooler inside in the summer and add privacy good tread on tires. good battery, Brand NEW BOSCH Generator! Cons- Transmission whines a bit more than I would like, however, all the gears work and don't pop out. Wasn't as bad before the long road trip, but whine got louder all those hours on the road. Not an immediate need, but keep it in mind for future maintainance. (good used bus transmissions sell for around $200-300) Gas guage quit working. This Bus does have a Clean Oregon Title in my name, which will be given to the buyer with an oregon DMV bill of sale. Payment by paypal only, immediate deposit required, the balance due within 72 hours. Buyer has 14 days to pick up the bus without other prior arrangement. Title will be sent with bill of sale as soon as vehicle is picked up, or handed over at that time if buyer comes to pick up themselves.
