Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a real deal (24267 Vin) 1970 Pontiac GTO Convertible.Sold new at Steingold Pontiac Corp Pawtucket RI.Originally verdoro green black interior black top. As you can see by the pics, the car was left to the elements which sadly led to its deterioration. With the improvements in technology and body work techniques used today this car can live again. Of course anything can be restored if you want to put the time and effort into it but I feel this would be a great donor car for a re-body. Out of the 3,615 total GTO Convertible production cars, only 887 were produced with manual transmission. That is a total combination of 3 and 4 speed cars. It doesnt give the breakdown individually of those. This is one of the 4 speed cars produced. We have the PHS and I will give you a run down of what this car came with for options. 400 V-8, 4 Speed Trans (Muncie M20 Wide Ratio), AM/FM Radio, Rally II Wheels, Console, Front Power Disc Brakes, Soft Ray Tinted Windshield, Road Handling PKG (Stiffer Shocks and Springs), Heavy Duty Battery, Safe T Track, Formed Steering Wheel, Tach and Guage Cluster, Variable Ratio Power Steering, Front Floor Mats, Power Windows and a Luggage Lamp. It is now missing the AM/FM radio, Shifter Knob, Original steering wheel is broken but the column and collar still good and the original engine was replaced at one point with a 1969 GTO 400 YA engine. This car has been sitting and not run for over 25 years. We took the time to clean it out and make it as presentable as possible so the potential buyer could see what they have to work with. It looked pretty bad under the hood but I had to find out if I could get the motor running as I feel it would have value to someone that needs a period correct mill. My son inlaw and I, worked on it for over 5 hours just changing out frozen and corroded parts such as the carb, coil, distributor, etc.. Well our efforts paid off!!! We put in fresh oil and an alternative fuel source and the engine roared to life! Much to my surprise, no lifter tick, bottom end noises or oil smoke. Motor runs real well and started every time we hit the switch! We went one step further and stuck on a steering wheel and drove the car out of the garage! All the gears work great!! This is a true testment to old GM Inginuity!!!! It has duel exhaust but some of it is connected and other parts are rusted out. Brake lines are all gone from rust. Surprisingly, the frame from the front of the car to just under the doors is still solid including the convertible boxed part. It was patched as it continued on over the rear and the back part is pretty much rusted out.Floor pans and trunk pan rusted out. Interior is all intact and can be revived. I played with the drivers power window and got it going up and down. The other switches are still corroded but im sure they can be cleaned up and working again. We have 5 Rally wheels. We checked the codes and 3 of them have "11 10 JL" which I believe is the correct wheels that came off this car when new. Of course those need to be blasted and restored. We are keeping the carb, distributor and coil that we used to start the motor and we will give you the original ones we took off Also replaceing the 2 front olds rally wheels with rollers. . We also have the hood hinges and a few misc parts that will be included. Maine does not issue titles for cars of this vintage. If you need a title in your state, we will register the car and with that and our dealer transfer paper work you can get a title. It will be an additional $150 for this service should you need it. I plan on listing the car locally also so I reserve the right to end the auction early should I have a buyer. If the car meets the reserve, I will let the auction run to the end to be fair to all potential buyers. Please be serious when bidding, make sure you have your funds in order and call with all questions and concerns before the end of the auction.
