Vehicle Detail

This is an Austin/Rover Mini Cooper, registered as a 1974 but built to 1994 specifications. It has the 1.3 SPI motor, which runs like a top and delivers 40+mpg in normal city driving. It is stock with the exception of the exhaust, which gives it a couple of extra horsepower and a really nice sound. It was built for the German market, imported into Canada and thence to the US, thus it is left-hand drive from new. I have owned it for about three years and put about 8000 kilometers on it in that time, it has 60,000 kms on it now. The radio doesn't seem to work, and the finish is cracked on the dash board (that way when I bought it, hasn't gotten any worse), other than that it is about perfect. It is a daily driver for me during the cooler times of the year, but I don't drive it as much during the summer as it has no air conditioning. The interior is surprisingly roomy and airy, with glass all around for great visibility, so it doesn't feel cramped inside. Still, it would probably be too small for anyone much over 6 foot tall or 200+lbs. I have done the rear brakes (new slave cylinders, shoes and turned the drums) and replaced vacuum lines, that is all I have needed to do except oil changes. It has been reliable and a blast to drive, economical and of course a classic, eligible for antique plates and insurance (currently through Hagerty). It has good tires, recent oil change and is ready to roll for it's new owner. I have a few spares, including a new electronic engine control unit, key fob with programmer, two good extra tires (only the front tires seem to wear much), fog lamps, speakers, shop manual/parts list, and other sundry items. The car is located in central Florida, and available for inspection by appointment. I am selling it for financial reasons only, as I have not lost my affection for it. It remains an economical classic car that is a blast to drive at sane speeds. They made these for many decades and this generation is well executed and trouble free. If you fit into the car and can live without air conditioning, it's about the most fun you can have for the money. It's not exactly fast, but it goes left and right quicker than anything else on 4 wheels, except perhaps a go cart. It's also very responsive, it responds to driver input so quickly you have to recalibrate your driving to avoid turning inside your intended apex. I have not detailed it for these pictures, please excuse the dust and rug flotsam. I borrowed a camera that doesn't work very well, and I don't know how to change the date. Most of the photos were taken today, the photos showing it in the garage are somewhat older, I took them for the insurance company. Please ask any questions before bidding and of course, please only bid if you are able and willing to complete the purchase. I will need secured funds or cash, Paypal acceptable for the deposit only. The title is clear and in my name, though it lists the car as a 1974 BMW. The local DMV couldn't find a listing for a 74 Mini-Cooper, so they called it a BMW as they make the new ones. It didn't occur to me until after the fact I should have told them it was an Austin Mini, but the VIN is listed correctly on the title and they assured me it was no problem. Thanks for viewing my auction...jon
