Vehicle Detail

FANTASTIC all original 5 window coupe. I recently spent over $2000 at a vintage Ford shop getting this back to great roadworthy shape. Among other things, it was fitted with a new distributor, new mechanical and electric back-up fuel pumps, all new brakes, new wheel bearings, a carb rebuild and a new battery. It has 'juice' brakes fitted from a '39 Ford. It starts right up and runs great. The only mechanical thing that needs attention is that there is a hole in the left bank exhaust manifold, which is why it sounds louder than it should. This was one of my summer cars at my lake cabin in Minnesota, where it was only driven in the summer in nice weather. A few years ago, I drove it from Minnesota to Denver. It ran wonderfully down the highway and made the 1200 mile trip without a glitch. Since then, I've not driven it much, and it has continued to be stored inside in a weather controlled building. I've not driven it in bad weather. My Ford guy tells me that the old-style lacquer paint is probably 40-50 years old. It's very presentable but as you'd expect, has a few areas of crazing, several cracks and several spots where it was touched up. It's also thinning in a couple of areas. I really enjoy the patina, and haven't considered repainting it because even though it's not the original paint, it's close enough to original that I think it'd be a shame to redo it at this point. The chrome is really quite nice, although there are a couple of small areas of pitting and the bumper guards probably could be replated if you're a perfectionist. The undercarriage is quite straight and clean. As you'll see from the pics, it was "ziebarted" or undercoated many years ago, and the undercoating has shrunken. However, the frame and crossmembers look quite good. The only evidence of body rust I see is a small spot of bubbling between the front fender and the running board. It's not a big deal, in my opinion. The interior is quite outstanding, particularly in light of its probable age. I don't know if it's original or not, but the material is certainly the kind that came with it originally. There are no holes or rips in the seat. The fabric is very nice, as is the fabric on the door panels. The clock is not connected and I'm assuming that it doesn't work. Probably didn't work when it was 6 months old, either. The dashboard looks great. The speedometer works, as do the gas gauge, oil gauge and ammeter. I can't tell if the temp gauge works, but I've not had a problem with overheating. The lights work, and it has aftermarket turn signals. It has a rumble seat that was recovered sometime before I bought it. That's a neat feature that you don't see a lot of. The back window rolls down so the people in the cab can have a conversation--or not--with the folks in back. Think "mother in law." There is some delamination of the glass of the driver's side window. This is really a well-sorted, incredibly original 5 window coupe that is reliable, beautiful and fun to drive. That's why I sincerely hope that whoever buys it doesn't try to rod it out. While I can't prevent that from happening, if you have rodding in mind, please, please look for another 35. I'll even help you look. Really. I've also put a video on youtube that might be helpful: The car is located in Denver, Colorado. I can meet you or your shipper with reasonable advance notice. Buyer to pay all shipping costs. I reserve the right to end the auction early. Thanks for looking, and let me know if you have any questions.
