I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THIS AUCTION AT ANY TIME, IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE CALL LET's TALK 1959 Burro Empi Sporster Camouflaged Sandbuggy Here’s your chance to own a piece of VW history as this fine little ride is made out of aluminum and metal, not the usual fiberglass jobs you see. Back in the late 50’s Hilder “Tiny” Thompson built the first Burro and then teamed up with Empi to make this fine specimen you see here. Even though Mr. Thompson made these vehicles for only a few years, they are still running on the road today. This particular model was built on a 1959 VW shortened pan. I will toss in a VW tow bar, you will need a 1 7/8 ball to use it. This ride would be a great tow vehicle for you RV'ers Here’s what’s been done to this fine ride: Motor: 1600 Type II with single heads and single Pict 34 carb. Trans: Bus gear reduction, which has just been serviced and new upper and lower bearings were installed on the passenger side by a pro shop. Exterior: Camouflage paint, front fog lights, new canvas top, tow hitch, cracks and rust in both front fenders and minimal in rear fenders. Interior: Reconditioned seats, custom wood dash, volt and temp gauges, interior light, new wiring, reversible steering wheel, custom wood covering on rear bed area, normal rust in battery box area. Since 2010, here’s what’s new on the car: Front glass, tires on all four corners (with warranty), brakes, wheel cylinders, fan belt, regulator. Note: Transmission pops out of fourth gear; if you hold it in place – no problem. Normal leakage of oil – no more than usual for a Volkswagen.Now for the Disclaimers, I try to be upfront on all vehicles that I list. The description above is provided by the previous owner.
