Vehicle Detail

I have for sale a 1960 Dodge Dart Pioneer 2-door hardtop. Car has the original and desirable 318 V8 (Poly 318 aka wideblock) with a 2-bbl carburetor, 3-speed pushbutton automatic Torqueflite transmission and power steering. Car is a driver and not a show car. Car drives out fine. Engine runs excellent, does not smoke or seem to use oil. New dual exhaust was installed, and valve seals and engine painted at same time. The radiator has been dipped and flushed and the top polished to bring out the brass. Transmission shifts fine, though there is a bit of a trick to get it started. In order to get the starter to engage, you have to slightly push in on the Reverse button and the starter engages just fine, every time. I believe either the transmission linkage or neutral safety switch needs to be adjusted. No big deal and it’s a free anti-theft device in the mean time. Brakes recently adjusted and the fluid was changed, so the car now stops fine. Parking brake rebuilt and holds the car fine. The only thing mechanically that I had planned on correcting is that the steering box is worn, so the car wanders within your lane. After a few minutes of driving it, you get adapted to it, but I prefer a tighter steering box. I received a quote to get it rebuilt for $265. The body of the car is in good condition for its age. Two owners ago did all the bodywork on the car himself, and it’s starting to show. Floor and trunk have been patched but are very solid. Splash panel is off the car, but in the trunk. The car has blisters, bubbles and chips of bondo that are loose and flaking and several areas of surface rust starting to show. These cars were known for rust in the front fenders, over and under the headlights, and this car is no exception. Over the headlights is perfect, but under the headlights is gone. Patch panels are available at reasonable costs. So, the car could use body/paint work, or drive it as is, your choice. All trim is in good shape; only exception is trim on bottom of the rear window which is rusted, so should be replaced, or sanded, painted and put back on. Bumpers are in a good shape. Interior is good condition. Seats have been recovered with vinyl material. Original fabric can be seen through one small hole in driver’s side seat back. Upper back seat has some stains on it, but they might come out with some elbow grease. Replacement carpet is in good shape, but has one hole where driver’s heel rests. Door panels and arm rests are all present and in good shape. Does not have a headliner in it right now, but I do have the original headliner and bows. Upholstery shop has quoted me $250-$350 to install a new headliner. All electrics on the car work except for the reverse lights. I have never tried to fix them. Turn signals are a bit touchy, so some adjustment might be needed there. Everything else electrically works fine. Headlights and bright lights, turn signals, brake lights, all guages, horn, interior lights, dash lights and tag light all work fine. Car was a radio-delete car from factory I believe, but I just bought a NOS radio kit for it which will come with the car. The VIN# is 5206130473 which translates this way: 5 means 8 cylinder, 2 means Pioneer, 0 means 1960, 6 means assembled in Newark, DE and then 130473 being the production number. The odometer currently reads 59,048. No guarantees made regarding mileage. I have a clear Ohio title in my name. The winning buyer must make all arrangements to have the vehicle shipped and delivered to its final destination. The undercarriage of this car is very solid. The frame rails are rock solid with no rot on them whatsoever. Most of it is undercoated, and what isn't has very light rust on it.On Apr-28-11 at 05:35:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Forgot to mention in my last update that this car is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early if the car sells locally before the auction ends.
