Vehicle Detail

At the request of the owner's niece, I am relisting this beautiful Buick at an extremely attractive price. We had almost 70 watchers during the last listing and some communication indicating the starting price needs to be in the low $30's. We agree so as you can see we are starting this auction at $30,000. This Buick will represent a great value to some lucky bidder. This 1939 Buick Series 41 Special Convertible Phaeton is beautiful to look at, runs wonderfully, and is great condition. There is no rust anywhere indicating a past frame off restoration. This is a very special vintage 1939 Buick. Few antique 1939 Buicks come on the market in this condition. Originally from California, this car was purchased at the RM Auburn Classic Car Auction in Auburn, Indiana on August 30, 2008 by an elderly gentleman in Louisville, KY. The car was purchased, with buyer's premium, for $68,200; at the height of the recent run-up in collector car prices. Original VIN is 13522977 and this Buick holds a valid current Kentucky title. Because of age and infirmity, he must now sell the vehicle and I am assisting his niece in its disposition. I have spent the past several months fine tuning the vehicle and repairing minor problems. The car has new carpeting, new battery, new trunk trim, a complete tune up, and oil change. A modern AM-FM Cassette radio has been installed. Included in the sale are shop manuals, original sales catalog and an original vintage owners manual. Attention was paid to bring other small items to seller's standards. As a result, it looks good and runs well. In 1939 the Series 41 Special Convertible Phaeton was built with the trunk-back style and was the lowest production model in the 'Special Series,' with 724 models built. It weighs 3,707 pounds and sold originally for $1,406.00….the most expensive in the Special line. The wheelbase is 120 inches; and the Dynaflash Valve-in-head straight-eight engine puts out 107 horsepower. This particular model was built with running boards…an option in 1939. Features in the 1939 Buick lineup include: hydraulic brakes, front and rear coil suspension, a column shifter, torque-tube drive, front sway stabilizer, knee action front suspension, 18 gallon gas tank, and an all silent three speed column shift Syncro-Mesh transmission. This was a state of the art prestige automobile in 1939 and today it retains the original color, style and features. The restoration is probably 10 to 15 years old and the paint appears to be base clear and has very few flaws. The chrome shows nice but there are some signs of aging. The interior is clean with some wear shown on the seats and door panels. The convertible top has a small hole centered over the driver seat and the top fabric has an approximate 10 inch discoloration at the top center. (This may be an old oil stain) This is not a 'perfect' car, but, as the photos show, it is lovely, clean and runs well. Feel free to call or email and arrange an inspection. We have priced this beautiful car at, or below market, and are very desirous to have it go to a good home. Tom Payette 502-727-9945
