Vehicle Detail

I’ve owned this Jeep for about 11 years. My needs have changed and I need something more drivable than a CJ. I’m leaving the elite ranks of a CJ owner and replacing it with a Rubicon. The worst part is I lose about 75 “jeep-wave” points. Anyway, on with the details. I run this Jeep often. In the summer, I use it for some light 4-wheeling, but mostly for local transportation to a trail-head for some mountain biking or hiking. In winter, it’s my plow and local transportation. I last used it last week to plow 2 ft of snow. So she does run well and all 4-wheel drive components work. A fuel-injected CJ? Well, it is possible and this CJ is very close. I had plans to install the MegaSquirt fuel injection computer and run a TBI on the 304. It is very close to being complete, I have the ECU and the relay board installed and running on the Jeep. The unit is connected enough with the necessary sensors to log CHT, MAT, MAP and RPM. All that is needed to complete the TBI conversion is to pull a GM TBI unit from a junkyard, mount it to the 304, wire it up and plumb the high pressure fuel. The HP fuel pump is included in this sale, but I do not have it installed because I didn’t want to install it without having the TBI installed. For more information about the MegaSquirt system, check out this website (I’m running the MS-I board): http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html and http://www.megamanual.com/mtabcon.htm As far as engine data acquisition is concerned, there’s a serial port on the dash for a laptop connection. It’s a matter of downloading the free Megatune software from the above link, install the software on a laptop and connect it to the serial port. There are free software tools for viewing and recording the data real-time. There’s about ½ of stock components left in this machine. Following is a list of diversions from stock. · Under the hood, you'll find an AMC-304. I bought it with this engine, I did not do the swap. Despite the ebay auction header, this vehicle does not have the 4 cylinder engine. I had no option to select "other". · Attached to that engine is an NP435 Ford transmission. This is a wide-ratio tranny with a granny-gear of 6.69:1 (http://www.fordification.com/bumpwiki/index.php?title=NP-435_Transmission_Overview). The original Jeep transfer case is still installed. · The stock steering box was replaced about 5 years ago with an AGR super box variable-ratio gear box. (http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=5019) · The stock power-steering pump was replaced with an AGR super pump about 5 years ago. This pump is designed to run a hydraulic winch and the AGR super box. (http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=10861) · The stock alternator was replaced last year with a 120 amp alternator to provide enough juice to run the plow. · The stock exhaust was replaced with dual-side exhausts running stainless steel pipes from the exhaust manifold (which is a cast iron manifold by the way) to the stainless steel mufflers. (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLO-842551/) These units were installed in 2008. Oddly, there is surface rust on the stainless pipes and mufflers. · The engine oil pan was replaced with a skid-plate oil pan. (http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=5025) · A 3-point seat belt harness was installed on both driver side and passenger side seats. (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HFM-SB3PXBK/?rtype=10) In addition to the stock replacements, following is a list of added features/components. · Twin-stick conversion on the transfer case. This conversion allows running in any configuration, for instance you can run just the front drive if desired. All interlocks have been removed, so you can run the front in LOW and the rear in HIGH if you wanted … not recommended of course! · Large ammo can is now used as a center console. This provides nice waterproof storage and makes a surprisingly nice arm rest. · Front and rear receivers · I ran hydraulics to both front and rear receivers to run a hitch mounted winch with stainless steel quick release fittings (pictured). · The hydraulics required a controller manifold to switch the hydraulics from the power steering pump to the winch in forward or reverse. I installed the MileMarker kit (http://www.milemarker.com/resources/34kit_app.html) · Second cabin heater was installed, the heat is taken from the engine coolant. The stock heater is still installed and operational. It’s the warmest Jeep I’ve known. (http://www.jcwhitney.com/heater-kits-for-on-road-and-off-road-vehicles/p2002895.jcwx?filterid=j1) · I built a new spare tire holder which now includes a place to carry an ax and shovel. The spare tire holder also has a small ammo can attached that I use to carry winching tools, like gloves, remote control, etc. The main purpose of the new tire carrier, however, was to also carry the receiver-plate mounted winch. · D-rings installed front and rear · I made what I call side-intakes for the TBI unit, they are homemade NACA ports on either side of the hood. The ports are fabricated of fiberglass and house intake filters and attach to the intake to the engine. I intended this system to be cool-air intake and possibly some additional ram air. They do work, I’ve been running the engine through them for years. · Homemade hand-throttle so you can work brakes, clutch and throttle at the same time. The following are stock items that I can recall have been replaced with stock replacements. · The entire brake system was replaced last year. This included a new master cylinder, new proportioning valve, new stainless steel brake lines all around, new front calibers, new rear calibers, new rear brake hardware and new rear drums. These brakes now work better than my Durango. · The shocks were replaced about 3 years ago. · The battery is about 3 years old. · Steering tie-rods were replaced about 4 years ago. · All u-joints, including front-axle u-joints, were replaced about 4 years ago. The following are the nasty details of issues. · The body is terribly rusted, many holes (drainage holes as I like to call them), and the body already has a ton of putty and fiberglass. I had intentions of getting a replacement fiberglass tub. · The frame is in much better shape. There are no spots on the frame that I can find that are rusted through. A few spots with some surface rust. · The hardtop leaks from the rear window hinges. · The doors don’t close too well. They do latch and don’t pop open during driving, but you can easily see light around the corners … and snow will blow in these same openings. Like the body, the doors are rusting too. · The passenger-side window crank is removed, the window is screwed shut. · I doubt the locks work on the doors, I never actually tried to lock it. The following is included in this sale. · Obviously the Jeep and all the stuff I stated above. · A fiberglass hardtop · A vinyl bikini top · High-pressure fuel pump for the EFI conversion · Warn 8000lb winch (note: this winch popped a gasket this winter, so currently the winch does not work, but just needs a new gasket of some sort) · Both front seats and the rear bench seat · Full steel front doors · The tires and wheels as pictured The following is NOT included in this sale, but are available if interested. · Four Cooper M+S LT235/85R16 studded snow tires mounted on 16” wheels. I will be selling these in a separate auction, but if you want them, add in $500 to the winning total. They have about 2,000 miles on them and are in perfect condition. Note that these are not the tires pictured, the tires pictured will be included in the sale. · The plow is not included in this sale, I have intentions to install this plow on my Rubicon. However, if you want the plow, add $2,000 to the wining total. It’s a Meyer 6.5 foot blade with power angle & lift powered by the Meyer E47 motor. If you want more details or pictures of the plow, let me know. So there it is. I cannot guarantee anything and I can’t be sure I listed and “disclosed” everything about this Jeep. Some things I may have gotten used to, or didn’t consider a problem, so be sure to ask any specific questions you might have. The Jeep is currently licensed in Pennsylvania, but is located and being sold from 80466. I am going to require $500 within 48 hours of winning the auction. I will allow two weeks from auction end to verify the Jeep and provide full payment. I understand the difficulties of buying a vehicle on ebay, this is where I bought my Rubicon. If for any reason you don’t buy the Jeep, the only money I will keep from the $500 deposit are any costs incurred by me for re-listing the auction (which there might not be any fees, I don’t really know). Nonetheless, let it be clear that the $500 deposit is refundable, less any fees or costs to me if you decide, for any reason, not to complete the purchase. I can help arrange shipping the Jeep if necessary. I had this Jeep shipped from PA to CO for $1,100 two years ago. I can help tow it somewhere if needed, we can negotiate those details, but be sure to ask if you don’t know how to deal with shipping before placing a bid.
