Vehicle Detail
This auction is for my 1971 Ford Bronco. In the three years that I have owned it, I have spent over $13K on purchase and parts. The only work that was performed by someone else was the transmission rebuild one year ago. The body has VERY little rust, small spots in lower corners of doors, and the front floor boards and pitted, but not rusted through( I was just going to Rhino-line over it). The only panel damage is visible in the right rear quarter( pretty good sized dent from ??). Paint was poorly done at least ten years ago and has chipped off in several places. I rate the body as an 8 out of 10 (especially for early broncos, and the paint is a 3 out of 10). Interior is pretty much stripped out, I put in leather power seats from an Explorer, but they sit real high and anyone of 5'10" will not like it. It has a small carpet piece on the floor in the back, no back seat, two Tuffy storage/speaker boxes on the wheel wells, an old 6 point roll bar(back down bars cut off), new 3-point shoulder belts, a ipod CD player and four speakers. The steering column is the nicest part inside the bronco(brand new Ididit tilt column with billet Budnik wheel and Borgesen shaft ($1200). I DO NOT HAVE A HARD TOP, so don't ask. Engine and Trans: I bought an 89 mustang, pulled the 5.0, AOD, then threw the car away. Dissassembled the engine, honed it, re-ringed and bearings, new E303 cam, double roller timing set, ported the heads, valve job, had all the exterior pieces powdercoated (intake, valve covers, brackets, etc), then put an RJM injection harness on and have run it that way ever since. Occasionally leaks coolant from timing cover......stupid design, the covers warp so fast on these engines. Transmission was installed "as-is", then went out last year. Had it preofessionally rebuilt and now works better than ever! Axles: Front axle is the more popular D44, but is an untouched original. Axle seals leak, ball joints were replaced, wheel bearings repacked, brakes cleaned up, etc. Front gear ratio is the factory 3.54:1 open diff. Rear axle received one new wheel bearing and new axle seals......and immediately started leaking again. Left rear axle shaft is bent ever so slightly and should be replaced soon (buy a hardened set for $350). 33" tires and AOD gearing didn't like the 3.54s, so I threw in an open 4.11 diff I had laying around and never got around to regearing/locking both diffs. So needless to say, this thing is and has been a pavement queen for the last 3 years. Suspension: Front is older aftemarket polyurethane stuff. Still tight, but aging. Needs higher lift springs (3.5" instead of the 2.5") to look right and new shocks. Rear is brand new 2.5" 11 leaf pack from Wild horses, still needs new shocks. Steering: column and shaft are brand new like I mentioned, pump is a brand new Saginaw (chevy style), box needs rebuild because of loud groan on left turns. Otherwise steering is tight and responsive. Electrical: Engine harness is new, but everything under the dash is original, and marginal (glass fuses, brittle wires, etc.) Brakes: original manual drums, new master cylinder, shoes and wheel cylinders in good shape, works great, stops straight. I have most of the factory parts to convert to front discs, but I never got to it.... Tons of new parts all over the place and still a ton more needed. This Bronco is a driveable project. I drove it day after day to work (45 miles each way) and had a lot of fun with it. When commuting, I was getting 18MPG cruising comfortably at 65-70. Please call with questions, as I can probably describe things better or send you more pics. Reserve is low, I don't expect to get my money back on this thing......just shooting for something reasonable. Buyer to arrange pick-up, I want a $500 deposit via Paypal in the first 48 hours after auction ends, then the rest via cash or cashiers check upon pickup. Kevin (805) 717-2332
