DESCRIPTION:

Our 2001 BMW 740iL is the flagship of the BMW line. This gently used 7-series is in very good cosmetic condition, very good electrical condition and good mechanical condition. The ride is very quiet, solid and sure-footed with a powerful 4.4L, V8 engine that runs very strong. The seats are comfortable front and rear. The front seats need some minor dye work, but the power features work great and they are heated. The rear seats not only look good, but they are heated too. Everything works as it should inside, but the rear speakers are blown for the Harman-Kardon audio system. It still can be played, but blips under heavy volume. The unit itself works great as does the CD changer. The head unit also functions as the navigation screen, which works perfectly. This car is loaded with just about every available option for the year and it all works.

The interior issues are: The right rear window regulator is bad, the wood trim around the shifter has some cracks in the clear coat, the front door sills are scuffed and have some painted surfaces peeling, the cupholders for the rear seat passengers won't pop out and the cupholders for the front seat occupants won't stay in. The pixels are going bad in the digital part of the dash display, the left rear door's triangular sunshade won't retract, the headliner is a little dirty over the driver's head, the glovebox handle is broken off, and there are some tiny paint chips on the steering wheel controls. One last thing; there are rear floor mats, but no front floor mats. That's about it inside. All very minor and easily repaired issues. Overall, the interior looks great.

Outside, the brilliant silver paint gleems brightly and looks consistent panel to panel. The body is very straight except for a couple small and shallow dings. There is no rust on the body and the paint only has a few minor blemishes. The hood has a few small chips on the front edge and the left fender has a couple tiny chips. The left side rocker panel is loose at the front (bad clips). The left rear door has a very tiny scratch and a tiny ding, the left 1/4 panel looks great, but the rubber trim is popping off beside the rear door's chrome trim up top. It's like that on the right side too. The trunk lid has some light scratches on top, the right rear door has a shallow ding, the right fender has one tiny chip, and the mirrors have a few tiny chips. That's it as far as the paint and body goes. All very minor and hardly noticeable issues. The alloy wheel look nice too with only some minor brake dust etching and some minor curb scrapes on the outer edges.

Mechanically, this BMW needs some work to be 100%. It has a VA State Inspection sticker on it that expires this month and the car will not pass inspection again without making some repairs. I will list all the mechanical problems here with the State Inspection items being marked by an asterisk (*). The engine has several minor oil leaks that are bad enough to cause an oil burning smell and a little smoke from the hood area after driving the car. The engine's front cover gasket leaks oil and the valve covers are leaking oil too. The waterpump clamp is weak and allowing coolant to leak out. The clamp on the coolant resevoir is leaking too. The power steering hoses are leaking , the intake needs to be resealed and the car's air filters need to be replaced. As mentioned earlier, the right rear window regulator is bad and the glovebox handle is broken. Inspection items are: The rear brake rotors and pads are too low*, the rear tires have too little tread remaining*, the right front sway bar links are bad*, and the right lower ball joints are bad*. That's it for all the mechanical issues with this BMW. All of these items can be repaired by a competent mechanic and don't required going to the dealer for service. If you can do the work yourself then this car is an even better deal for you.

For Non-Virginia residents this car will be sold with an expired VA State Inspection sticker or a VA State Rejection Sticker. For VA residents, the car will be sold with a VA State Rejection sticker.
