Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is a 1969 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Luxury Sedan in excellent, unrestored original condition. This incredible car is just 62,894 miles from new, and is in very good running condition. It is equipped with the famous 455 7.5 liter Rocket V8 developing 365 horsepower and an incredible 510 foot pounds of torque, which is mated to a Turbo Hydromatic 400 automatic transmission. It has power everything - power seats, windows, brakes, steering - rare in a car of this vintage. It does have air conditioning, although it probably needs to be recharged. It is green with a vinyl hardtop - the only real issue with the body is a small dent in the trunk lid, which can be seen in one of the pictures. In addition, one of the rear wheel covers needs some TLC - a minor cosmetic repair. It and the corresponding hub cap are not currently installed but are most certainly included with the vehicle. The interior is in very good condition, with excellent upholstery. The original radio has been replaced with an updated unit - other than that it is in excellent original condition with out modifications. Dr. Jim was my family doctor for as long as I remember - this car was purchased new by his father (also a doctor) on 12/6/68 in Bangor PA. As such, this is essentially a one owner car and still bears the original certificate of title from December of 1968. Dr. Jim's dad was a devoted Cadillac fan, but when the price of a new Caddy went above $4000, he decided to shift over to Oldsmobile's top of the line car - essentially a Cadillac with a different badge on it. He drove the car until 1979, when it went into storage in a barn in Massachusetts with just 38k on the clock. It stayed there until 1999, when Dr. Jim brought it out of storage and recommissioned the car. It was repainted in the original color, and was thoroughly gone through to ensure it was in tip top shape. Dr. Jim then drove it to it's current location at his retirement home in Arizona. Here it was dubbed the "Desert Cruiser", and was used as a pleasure vehicle for the next several years. It made a number of trips to Colorado ski country - long skis fit very nicely in it's incredibly large trunk! Unfortunately, Dr. Jim passed away last year. His beloved Desert Cruiser is now available for it's next caretaker. This car is a truly unique time capsule, having been built in the heyday of the great American automobile. It is in wonderful condition for a car that is over forty years old, and should provide the new owner with many years of enjoyment. Several pictures are attached, and I have more available on request. The car is located in Arizona, just outside of Phoenix. Obviously, local pick up is preferred, but we can certainly assist with pick up by the buyer's transportation company - transportation will be at the buyer's expense.
