Vehicle Detail

Riding season is here (finally). Here's your next motorcycle. This is a GREAT bike with VERY LOW MILES but please note that it is a salvage title. I have owned four of these RT's and this one is just as good as the other three were. I put a total of 85,000 miles on the first three between 1997 and 2007. I quit riding in 2008 because of some injuries that have healed well but, I found that sitting on a motorcycle for a few hours put me in a lot of neck pain. This purchase last July was to see if I was going to be able to ride again like before and it looks like I'll need some more healing before I'm going to get back into this wonderful sport. Here's the story of this bike: This bike was purchased new in 2004 and stolen from the owner shortly thereafter. The thief dropped the bike and ran on foot while being chased by the police and managed to damage most of the plastic but didn't harm the mechanics. The insurance company called the bike "totalled" because the plastic is so expensive to replace. The damanged parts included both hard bags and most plastic body parts as well as the windshield. The motorcycle was purchased as "salvage title" with only about 1500 miles on it by the owner of "Hollywood Motors". His business (Hollywood Motors) is buying used police bikes and cars and renting them to the movie industry and he has a lot in the LA area that has many many cop bikes and cars on it. Most if the bikes are retired BMWs. Because he has about 150 motorcycles on his lot at any time, he had plenty of parts to completely fix this motorcycle. He had all parts painted a beautiful pearl yellow (expensive paint!) and had his mechanic go through the entire bike to make sure everything is perfect. He added a Marshall Saddle to it and used it as his personal bike from 2005 until 2010. He did no long-distance touring but only occasionally rode it to Malibu for breakfast with friends and, because he wasn't riding it much (He also has a Ducatti and a couple of other sport bikes), he sold it last year on EBay. I paid a deposit and flew down there, did a test ride, paid him the balance and rode it home. The details above were given to me by the owner of Hollywood motors and I saw his bike collection and believe this to be the true story. I have verified what he said by taking the bike apart and looking under the skin. The mechanics are all in great condition as far as I can tell and the paint is very pretty - you won't find another BMW this color, that's for sure. This is my fourth RT and it's the smoothest one I've owned. It runs like a sewing machine, really smooth and no vibration. I had the oil changed when I got it back home and it hasn't needed any repairs of any kind. I rode it over to the coast a couple of weeks ago (couldn't ride ON highway One because it was the day of the tsunami and they had closed the highway!) but had a nice ride anyhow. I'm selling it because, due to an injury that I had about 7 years ago, my neck is messed up and riding causes too much neck pain for me so I reckon my riding days are behind me until I get some more therapy on this neck. This is an opportunity to get a really nice R1150RT for a great price. It's being sold "as-is", of course, because that's the only way to sell a used bike. I know these motorcycles, however, and this one is in really good condition with very low miles for a 2004! Special bits and pieces: I installed a VERY loud dual air horn AND kept both original horns on it so, when you need to warn somebody off, they get the message! ( and maybe pee a little bit too : } ) The tires have plenty of tread - nowhere near the wear-bars. My guess is that they have about 75% of tread left. They are a nice set of Dunlops. The hard bags are also custom painted and have reflectors on the back for greater nighttime highway visibility. In the interest of full disclosure, the left hard bag is perfect on the outside but the inside of the bag is kinda rough. It certainly works ok but I think he bought a used one for this replacement and the elastic is not very fresh. This is about the only odd bit that I need to tell you about. It's no big deal and nothing a bag liner wouldn't handle. The Hollywood motors mechanic had put a second battery in the glovebox, (the cop bikes are like this because they run so many lights) and I had it removed because it's absolutely not necessary and I do like to have the locking glovebox space for sunglasses, wallet, etc. The bike comes with 3 keys and yes, both hardbags and the glovebox all work on the same key as the ignition. It has a Marshall Seat both passenger and rider - custom seat manufacturer with a great reputation. There are two windshields, I had one cut-down for summer riding. It only takes 2 minutes to switch them out and I really like a full breeze on my torso when it's hot in the Sacramento valley. The electric windshield feature still works with the shortie shield and, when you do need it, it still blocks most of the wind in the up position. Pretty handy. I purchased an "Alaska Leathers" sheepskin pad for the seat which is really comfortable both winter and summer. The bike comes with a mini tank bag (see photo) that is made specifically for this bike and has a little internal quick release so you can just pop it off of the tank and carry it inside with you if you want to. It attaches to a couple of screws that installed in the gas cap ring and they have a little nipple that sticks up for the quick attachment. It's new and is a great little bag. Heated grips, of course and they work really well. Custom "R1150RT" decals that I had made and I installed them. see photos. There is a small scuff on the right-side head protector (I outlined it in red in the photo). I assume that this is a part that wasn't replaced from the earlier damage. Please email me with any questions. I live in Roseville Ca and the bike is available to test ride. Chris This bike is listed locally as well and I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells locally. On Apr-04-11 at 20:45:17 PDT, seller added the following information: I am happy to help with shipping by delivering the bike to a local shipping facility (say, within 80 miles or so). There is a button next to shipping above that will lead you to shippers so that this can be arranged.
