Vehicle Detail
This car is for an ambitious and skilled person who is ready and willing for a challenge...or the car could simply be used as a parts car if you so desire... or perhaps a race car. The car appears to be over all solid and not a rot box. Someone put alot of labor into this car at some point. Please read the ad thoroughly and examine the pictures closely. I will try my best to describe the car for what it is.Thank you. This is one of those cars you here about that get passed thru many hands filled with dreams but never fully completed by them. I acquired the car with hopes of doing the same, but have since found a better car needing less work. This Barracuda is more of a project than I care to get involved with at this time. I have not done any repairs to the car personally...this is the condition I got the car in. I do not know much about this car...only what I was told by a previous owner. The car started out as a 6 cylinder with an automatic transmission. I would say the car had a rough life, being parked outside and neglected, until someone rescued the car and began repairing it with the intention of making it a street/strip car, but never finished it. Time went by and the car exchanged hands a few times, but never finished. The last owner bought over $2400 worth of new sheet metal for the car, such as; RH and LH full reproduction quarter panels, tail light panel, upper cowl, RH and LH inner fender aprons. The floor pans and trunk floor were replaced at some point and frame connectors were also added and the frame rails were fully boxed. The guy then proceeded to also put bolts and plates thru the main floor and trunk floor into the frame rails to further reinforce and tie the body to the frame. I guess this was a race car thing to do? He then cleaned and painted the entire bottom of the car blue and the frame rails black. He then tried to fabricate his own smoothed out cowl sides and toe boards, but he did a poor job in my opinion and I would recommend replacing these areas with the correct body panels. By doing this, he eliminated the lower fender mounting portion of the cowl, so a fender could not be mounted without making a bracket at the very least. Also, the door hinge mounting surface is off. As shown in the picture, you will notice that on the driver's side lower hinge, there is a spacer to make up the difference. The upper cowl panel was replaced, as well as the inner fender aprons. Not sure about the radiator support tho. None of the welds were grounded down so there are weld bumps throughout the panels. The shock towers look in good solid condition. The lower cowl was patched poorly in spots and would need to be gone over. The outer rockers were poorly repaired and should done over in my opinion. The doors need lower patches, which are included with the car. The doors have no guts in them, but the regulators and tracks are included, but there is only a RH door glass with the car. The quarter windows, regulators and tracks are out of the car, but included. The roof has surface rust with lots of dents and should be replaced with a new roof skin in my opinion, unless you want to take lots of time to repair the dents! The inner quarter panel structure, rear package tray and inner wheelhouses appear to have been repaired at one time and should be replaced in my opinion. It seems like someone tried to make their own inner wheelhouse but the contour is wrong on the LH one, resulting in the trunk hinge bracket not being able to be mounted properly, hence why the trunk lid is not bolted onto the car. The outer wheelhouses need to be replaced also. The outer full quarter panels were only rough fitted and screwed into position, so they are still in excellent condition, as well as the new tail light panel. The trunk floor was replaced at one time. but appears to have been cut about 3 inches short of the tail light panel and then had a strip of metal tack welded in position. This would need to be reworked. The hood is a used original in excellent condition. The fenders are fiberglass, which I am not a fan of. There is no grill with the car. Some other parts that appear to be missing are; the tail lights, side marker lights, dash pad, seat belts, LH door glass and windshield. I'm sure there are small items missing, but I did not do a complete checklist of what is here and what is not. There are lots of parts that come with the car, as shown in the pictures. The rear window is included with the car. The interior and seats are there, but need replacing. The headliner bows, drip rail moldings, front and rear glass trim and interior glass trim are there. There is a wiring harness in the dash, but not sure of any other harnesses. Car is compiled of a mixture of multiple parts that were collected over the years from various cars. The car appears to have newer front suspension components installed, but the upper control arms are inverted, I assume to raise the car for racing? I believe the k-member was changed to a V-8 and has a power steering box. The front brakes were partially replaced with new components and it has a manual brake master cylinder. The guy also started to convert the car to a manual 4-speed set up. The clutch pedal assembly is mounted in the car and the manual transmission hump was added to the tunnel area. There is also a Z-bar with the car, but not installed. There is no motor and no transmission and no shifter and no radiator with the car. The rear end has no center section of gears. There is no driveshaft with the car either. A used gas tank is included with the car, but the mounting braces were never replaced on the car. There is a clear NJ transferable title in a previous owner's name for this car. Since the dash pad was never saved, there is no VIN tag with the car. If this is a problem, please do not bid on this car. If this seems like too much of a project, as it is for me....please do not bid. Thank you.
