Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on an extremely clean '89 Westy full camper. It breaks my heart to have to give this up but I must. You can tell from the pics that inside and out it's a real beauty. After a car wash this baby seriously looks only a few years old! BUT let's get to the nuts and bolts of the bad news: it does need some mechanical TLC. It has a leaky cylinder head on the left side that is most likely more than just the gasket. In servicing the head the exhaust will need to be removed. The exhaust is fairly rusted and I don't expect it to hold up well enough to be reinstalled therefore a new exhaust system is most likely necessary. I only stopped driving it in late February so it has not been sitting for long at all. Other than these 2 problems the van runs and drives very well so with the bad news out of the way let's get to the longer list that is the good news! This van began life in Germany where it was picked up from the factory by it's first owner back in April of '89. It toured Europe before being shipped to Washington State which was home until the late 90's when the first owner's daughter brought it to Santa Barbara. It stayed in that lovely car preserving climate, probably only used for vacations and perhaps garaged, until 2006. That's when I won her on ebay from a classic car dealership. Along with the van and all of it's original factory manuals came a file folder with an impeccable record of all the services done to the van including the original receipt from when the van was first bought in Germany. Since the van has been in my possession I have made the following upgrades: - updated propane tank- auxiliary battery ( runs camping equipment and cig lighter )- new stereo and speakers- "15 GoWesty wheel package- fridge update from GoWesty ( makes lighting the fridge on propane much easier )- resealed poptop and luggage rack- new window screens- center console- leather steering wheel wrap- front & rear mudflaps As for mechanical components the following has been replaced: - rebuilt speedometer- new starter- new battery- new alternator- new windshield- new water pump- voltage regulator Once this van's mechanical problems are repaired this will be a glorious van! A few minor cosmetic issues are: paint bubble on rear hatch, small thin patch of rust forming at seam aft of driver side front wheel, minor damage to rear bumper. Photos of all are in the photo gallery. This van has power mirrors, and fully functioning cruise control. All of the camping equipment works like a charm. The original poptop canvas is it excellent condition. The fridge lights very easily on propane and gets cold enough to make ice in the little tray included. I've used both the internal water tank and city water at campsites and both work fine. Included is all you need to get hooked up with water and electric at any campsite, plus leveling ramps and 2 little bubble levels that I never got around to installing. The stereo is a Pioneer with a remote, CD player and front auxiliary jack. The metal piece on the dashboard once held a compass which is included. Not sure if the screw or the threading in the compass itself got stripped. There is also a small plastic piece installed near the glove compartment that held an altimeter ( the original owner was a retired pilot ). The piece is partially broken and will no longer hold the altimeter. Also included with this van is a separate cabinet that holds a porta potty. From what I understand only the European models came with this. It is an original piece of equipment, not an after market or homemade piece. Porta Potty included, never used by me. This cabinet is really great for carting groceries or miscellaneous camping equipment and also serves as a great step up to getting into the upper bunk. I am also including the Bentley manual with the van which would otherwise cost around $70 dollars. It is a must have. I have only put around 26,000 miles on this van in almost 5 years. When not taking me on adventures it spent most of it's time in my parking spot at my building or running errands around town. This van has a long life ahead of it and is just waiting to hit the open road again! Please contact me with any questions and good luck!
