Vehicle Detail
Up for sale was my daily driver. 1998 Mercury Mystique LS with 141,000 miles (rounded up). Very reliable car, bought it at the end of January because my work required alot of driving. Only repair needed after several thousand miles -New alternator. Ran great recently, no problems electronically or mechanically UNTIL all of a sudden the CLUTCH goes out on my way home from work & I barely made it into my driveway. THEN I wake up the next morning to a front right tire that looks like it's losing air somewhat rapidly=could be a nail or leak....Talk about when it rains it pours! In regards to the clutch, I will try to describe the issue as best I can. When you push the clutch in, it's basically mush/soft like nothings there & won't engage at all, BUT it does not stay to the floor when pressed in, it comes back up like it should. SO, basically I had to put the car in 2nd gear and or reverse before I tried starting the car, then pushed the clutch in to start it and it putters along as the starter cranks it. I drove it to my brothers in town that way in second gear @ about 4k rpms. (Brother is a certified mechanic @ a reputable mechanic shop nearby) He put it up on the lift & tested to see if there was air in any of the lines & bled em out, but that was not the problem, had a good squirt of fluid. He then checked everything that he could to diagnose the problem & came up with a conclusion that something inside was not functioning properly. He dropped the car & we talked about possible solutions & whether or not I should fix it.... or sell it for parts or a mechanic's special. Being that I obtained a great paying job a couple months after buying the car, I have decided to sell it & buy a new car. He didn't know "EXACTLY" what the diagnosis is unless he took it apart & thoroughly looked at it, & told me chances are it will need a new clutch. SO BE PREPARED! YOU WILL NEED TO TOW OR TRAILER THIS CAR UNLESS you live in a decent enough distance where you can drive "carefully" (Was pretty hard to navigate through town when you cant shift or disengage/engage the clutch...especially in reverse) in second gear going 35mph MAX running it @ 4 thousand rpm. Does not leak any fluids whatsoever. Oil change every 3000 miles & interior is vacuumed & armor-all'd basically once a week. Exterior has its dings & scratches for being a 12 year old car. Before it broke, it Shifted smoothly, & drove even smoother. Leather seats, no tears all around. Driver side seat is showing wear with a few cracks. Power locks & windows all around. Doors shut and close like they should. Sun roof works great. Has original cassette player in still, your basic radio. Heater keeps you warm in the winter and a/c cold in the summer. Everything internally looks & works superbly. Only a couple known problems COSMETICALLY with the car- Rocker panels are rusting pretty bad, as seen in pics, but it has gotten worse over winter. Please take note of that. I was messing with it and a piece fell off on the passenger side after I took the pics. Just looks like a little square piece is missing. (Both sides but this problem is only cosmetic. The rust is nowhere nears the springs or anything of great importance, just looks ugly.) Trunk does not pop open when you hit the trunk release inside so you have to manually use the key to open the trunk. (No big deal, just a hassle) There are some spills in the trunk from white paint out of a bucket (Nothing dramatic, just a couple tiny little spots) Tire tread: 2 rear tires are probably around 70% while 2 front tires are around 60% (Like I said front right one looks as though its leaking!!!) Motor is clean, runs great. Was a very reliable car, never had any problems until the clutch. (& Besides the alternator around 6 months ago) Gets good gas mileage 20-26 miles per gallon give or take a few miles. All in all don't expect a brand new car, has it's cosmetic flaws but WAS my daily driver, it is a 13 year old car. I don't have any for sale signs on it which means ebay is the only place it can be seen for sale. THIS CAR NEEDS A CLUTCH (Expecting the worst) AND POSSIBLY A FRONT RIGHT TIRE FIXING= MECHANIC'S SPECIAL or if you know what your doing, you can have a great car at a wholesale price. I really can't see anyone buying this for parts, as it has a really clean engine & interior. Just needs that clutch & a front tire fixing. Like I said I'm buying a new car, that is the only reason I am not fixing it.Pictures were taken right before winter, as I was going to sell it then because I got the new job, but decided to hang onto it. No sense in buying a really nice car before winter! Car looks EXACTLY the same in pics as it does now after being washed. I personally guarantee this...If you bid & win the car before coming to check it out (which I don't suggest when buying any vehicle) & you think I was dishonest in anyway with this listing, feel free to walk away with no negative feedback, all I will ask for is a couple bucks to recoup the listing fee. My guarantee. Obviously I am selling with no warranties whatsoever and it is being sold AS-IS! Clear title in hand. I am open for trades (Dirt bikes, snowmobiles or anything THAT DOES NOT need repairs & is in good working order) ALSO, car has about 3/4 tank of fuel, & it will be vacuumed/washed by me before it's sold. (I will also continue to pump air in the front right tire so it does not sit flat & completely ruin the tire) You can call me at 815-993-0300 (Jacob) and come take a look/hear it run. You can also contact me through eBay, I check it every day. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. THANKS! God Bless On Mar-04-11 at 06:20:00 PST, seller added the following information: ******I WILL NOT SHIP THE CAR ANYWHERE****** It is the buyers responsibility to pick it up. To much of a hassle for me/scams out there. Thanks! On Mar-07-11 at 13:52:15 PST, seller added the following information:To all who have asked, here are a few day time photos of the car. Like stated above, the rocker panels are a sore sight, but it is really only cosmetic. Other than that, it is your average 1998 car. Thanks to those who have waited, I am a very busy man! Any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me! Thanks again
