Vehicle Detail
Spring is in the air and it’s time to think about what you want to be riding to your local bike night cruise in. We all know the chopper scene is dead and vintage bikes are in. And when it comes to vintage bikes, there is no bike as universally loved and respected as a SOHC CB750. Now go one step further to the rarest of the SOHCs, the CB750F! With its factory Café styling, disk brakes front and rear, and factory 4 into 1 exhaust, it was the king of CB750 cool! This 1975 CB750F has just over 17000 original miles, has been restored and tastefully customized to be the way I think Honda should have made them. The high rise handlebars have been replaced with superbike bars for a performance riding position. The ugly turn signals have been replaced with small, discrete cateye style signals. The stock mirrors were replaced with chrome bar end mirrors. The horrible square wart of a taillight has been replaced with a sleek cateye style taillight, and the 50lb battleship of a muffler has been replaced with a baffled tip that just barely takes the edge off of the open header sound. The other thing you’ll notice is that the stock airbox has been removed and replaced with pod filters. I know a lot of people have trouble dialing in pods on a CB750, and end up with a coughing, popping nearly unridable bike. That is not the case with this bike. The carbs have been completely rebuilt and set up for the pods with both the main and pilots rejetted. The bike runs great with them, starts easy, and pulls hard. But, if you would rather have a bone stock bike, I have all the original parts that can easily be put back on with the exception of the muffer. For the restoration aspect, the bike was completely disassembled. The frame was painted a nice semi gloss black, the motor was sandblasted and painted with VHT aluminum engine paint and fastened together with a full stainless allen bolt kit. All chrome and every bolt and nut was cleaned and polished. All connectors in the wiring harness were cleaned and the voltage regulator was replaced. All electrical works great. All bulbs in the gauges and warning lights were replaced. The front and rear brake systems were rebuilt completely. The front forks, and steering head was rebuilt. The wheels, spokes, and wheel bearings are BRAND NEW! Yes, that’s about $700 in wheels alone! New Kenda Challenger tires were installed along with a new chain and sprocket kit. It also has BRAND NEW, OEM rear shocks. Now for the body. This is where I ran into a dilemma. I had plans to repaint the bike completely, but as I cleaned and polished, I realized that the original paint was spectacular! It was not without flaws, but with a little rubbing, the sunrise orange flake sparkled like new! The tank also had some dings, but I decided that it was just too cool to lose the originality, so I left it. Because of this decision, the tank still has a crease on the top left side, an s shaped scratch on the left side, and a couple of smaller dings and chips on the right side. The most noticeable is the s shaped scratch, although the crease is definitely noticeable if you look for it. The tank had a liner installed so there is no worry of contamination. Moving on to the side covers, they also have some minor scratches and the left one has some light stains that look like they could be from brake fluid. Not real noticeable, but they are there. The tail has a spot right behind the seat that has a pretty noticeable scuff. All of this is in the pics. To be honest, the bike really does look spectacular and especially for original paint, it’s really a great color! Other flaws with the bike are some scuffs on the front fender, but I do have a replacement that is near perfect but needs mounting brackets straightened. The number 4 header tube has a ding, but the rest of the header is in great shape and is shiny. The chrome on the gauges has a few pits that aren’t real noticeable as does the headlight ring. The seat is original and has one 2” area on the seam that has been patched with a vinyl repair kit, again, not very noticeable. All in all, it’s an absolutely great bike, very, very clean, very unique, and tons of reliable fun. It also will pull around 50mpg on the highway, so would make a great commuter bike to take the sting out of the high gas prices! $200 down payment as soon as the auction ends and the rest in cash when the bike is picked up. If the bike isn’t everything I said it is once you’ve inspected it, I will refund your money. Test rides only after cash is in my hand. While this is an excellent bike, it is 36 years old, so no warranty given or implied. I will not ship, but if you are welcome to arrange shipping. Bike will not leave until cash is in my hand. U.S. citizens only please. Illinois title clear, free, and in my hand. The reserve is well below the Buy it now price, and both are very reasonable for such a rare and collectable bike. Ask any questions, I’ll respond and post on the auction. Thanks for looking! However, I will not end the auction with the promise of a local sale, only if someone shows up with cash in hand. Thanks again for looking! Jason
