Vehicle Detail
LOW RESERVE! You are looking at a 1953 SIMPLEX "servi-cycle" motorbike(motorcycle). This is a very unique motorcycle! It has the classic look of early BMW's, Harley Davidson's, Indian's, Royal Enfield's,etc., but at a fraction of the cost! This bike brings more compliments and interest than my restored "show" bikes. I absolutely love it! It's time for me to start thinning my collection down however so it's time for this wonderful gem to find a new home. You can restore it or ride it as is. Personally, I love it the way it is and it seams other people do as well. This Motorcycle is unique and rare enough that they have one in the Smithsonian Museum! Here's your chance to enjoy a peice of American History! It does run, however the float recently started sticking so that will need to be addressed before it will be ride-able again(doesn't want to fire up-flooding). I have a rebuild kit for the carb, so you won't have to buy one. There really isn't much to working on these, hence the name "SIMPLEX". Also I have a few misc parts, new water decals, and it also has the rack for the back. I will provide a bill of sale, since the title is long gone from all the moves, different locations etc. over the years. Please feel free to ask any questions, I will do my best to answer them. Thank You, enjoy. Simplex Motorcycle was an American motorcycle manufacturer. The Simplex was the brainchild of Paul Treen, who started the company in the late 1920s with a $25 investment. Treen was a draftsman by trade and inventor by nature. The Simplex was a natural extension of his abilities and vision. It was built in New Orleans and, surprisingly, it was the only motorcycle ever manufactured in the southern part of the U.S. The first Simplex motorcycle was introduced in 1935, and as the name implied, was built with simplicity in mind. Its 125-cc engine powered the rear wheel through a direct-drive arrangement, eliminating the complexity and expense of a transmission and clutch. Later models added more features. The Simplex Automatic motorcycle was fitted with an automatic clutch and variable transmission. Furthermore, its two-stroke engine incorporated a rotary valve that was quite unusual for the period. Light weight and efficient design combined to return a claimed 100 mpg. Simplex's minimalist philosophy was maintained through out the company's history, whose designs changed little after 1935. By the 1950s, Simplex's designs were primitive leading to the company's demise in 1960. A 1935 Simplex Servi-Cycle motorcycle is currently on display in the Smithsonian's America on the Move exhibit.
