Vehicle Detail

1997 VOLVO 850 You are bidding on a nice 1997 Volvo 850. It is equipped with the naturally aspirated, 2.4 Liter 5 cylinder engine, with automatic transmission, and has all the options, including the rare sport package which includes the rear trunk mounted deck spoiler with integrated third brake light, and fog lights in the front. White, with charcoal leather seats, it is fully loaded with power windows, central locking, power seats with 3 way memory, electric sun/moon roof and AM/FM CD/Cassette Radio. It also has the legendary Volvo safety features with dual air bags, as well as side impact protection. I am the second owner and have a clear title in hand. IMPORTANT DISCLOSURE: The odometer on this car stopped working on 10/03/08 at 107805 miles when the instrument cluster was removed to replace some of the instrument lighting. The actual mileage is higher. My conservative estimate is that true mileage is closer to 123,000 based on the 5,000 – 6,000 miles this car was driven in a year. My son drove this to school, a 25 mile round trip 4 days a week on average and some local weekend driving. The mechanic has informed me that a new speedometer head is required. The gauges all work otherwise. Vehicle Condition: This Volvo is a great car in decent condition, given its age and mileage. I will try to give an honest and comprehensive description but it is a used vehicle and is by no means perfect. The asking price reflects this. Mechanical: The car runs and shifts extremely well. As I mentioned, this has been my son’s daily driver for the last four years and has proved to be extremely comfortable, safe and reliable. The oil has been changed regularly, and will be changed again for the new owner. The timing belt and water pump were changed at 60,000 miles, and so is just about due for another change. Since I have owned it, I have replaced: Radiator (Last week) Front Shock/Strut Assembly - Nov 2010 Brake Disks and Pads - Sept 2010 Left & Right Control Arms - Nov 2010 Left & Right Tie Rod Ends - Nov 2010 Engine Mounts - Nov 2010 Heater Core - Sept 2010 Front Tires – April 2010 Spark Plug Wires & Distributor cap – Nov 2008 It has just passed MD emissions inspection, but the check engine light is on now, most likely an oxygen sensor. HVAC: The A/C works but has to be re-charged every year, which means there is a leak in the system somewhere. Last month the heater blower motor died, so there is no fan operation whatsoever now. I have the replacement and will include it in the sale, but the new buyer will have to get it installed. It will also need the fan speed resistor which controls fan speeds 1-3. The heat works, and we were able to drive the car on really cold days with just the ambient heat coming through the vents; there is just no way to increase the actual air volume. Interior: The seats are clean and have no rips or tears except for the typical bolster wear on the driver’s seat. Dashboard, roof lining and carpets are also all clean and smoke free. All electronics work as they should, except for the seat heaters and the electric antenna. My son went through and replaced all speakers with upgraded pioneer speakers and the sound is great. There is one small stone chip in the windshield, but all glass is in good condition otherwise. Exterior: The exterior paint shines brilliantly. There are some small dings from where the previous owner had parked under a walnut tree, but the overall I would rate the exterior to be 8 out of 10. There are of course the usual scratches that are typical for a vehicle this age. The tires are 215/45-17 Continental Extreme Contacts and are mounted on 17” graphite Volvo R Pegasus rims. The fronts are newer having been replaced in April, and the rears are approximately 50% worn. The car has not been in any major accidents, but the left rear fender was repainted after it was backed into by a work truck when parked. Terms of Sale: This is a 7 day auction, but I reserve the right to end the auction early due to local sale. Please do not bid on this car if you are not serious, or do not already have the finances in place. $500.00 non–refundable deposit due within 48 hours of auction’s end, with balance payable within 7 days of auction’s end. Winning bidder will be responsible for all shipping costs. I will deliver the car free within a 50 mile radius of zip code 20904. This car is being offered for sale AS-IS, and there is NO WARRANTY, expressed or implied. While I have tried to describe the condition of the vehicle as accurately as possible, please bear in mind that this is a used car with relatively high mileage, and as such may have normal wear and tear that I have missed in my description. Thanks for bidding, and Good Luck!
