Vehicle Detail
1972 Lotus Europa Twin Cam with Special pinstripes and rocker panels. Excellent paint, has nice patina as this car has been garage kept its entire life. No barn find here! I've had this car 10 years and put on 12,000 miles. It now shows about 54,000 which I know to be accurate. Last summer I had the engine rebuilt as it was smoking through the valve guides; they only last 48,000 according to the Wilkins Twin Cam Engine book. So, got new guides, new pistons, bored .002" over, rebuilt carbs, dynoed at 116 HP which is a great power to weight ration for a 1600 pound car. I have all records back to 2001. Since I bought this car I've replaced or rebuilt almost everything besides the engine: master cylindar, distributor, (which now has electronic ignition), alternator, starter, electric fuel pump, new carpeting, new coil, complete new front suspension, custom aluminum headers and exhaust, Curt Bean cartrige water pump (if it fails you need not remove the engine like with the stock pump. Not that many Europas have this feature!)...not to mention lots of trim parts such as pedal rubbers, door handle surrounds, brake light pressure switch...lots more. This car starts right up and drives like a race car. It's a fun toy that is going to be much, much more reliable than the average Europa. Of course, it's a Lotus, so you should be handy on the simple things as every now and then something might pop up. But, I've taken care of almost everything already so it's been a reliable car for me. It's a really fun car to work on too, and I've enjoyed the restoration process. But I have one child in college and another about to be, so I need the money. Whoever gets this car will get a Europa with just two previous owners, and has been loved very much. What's left to restore? The dash, which I have the replacement for, the "crash pad" which is easy to buy, the driver's seat has cracks although the passenger seat is perfect. Headliner is perfect. The rear shocks are old at some point could be replaced. And the heater cable is 1" too short; the idiots who took the engine out for the rebild just clipped it and that was that. If you're local you can drive the car away, if not you must make arrangements to have it shipped to where you are. Serious buyers can request more pics. To avoid scams I'm asking for a wire transfer to my bank, or the patience to wait for any check to clear. $500 deposit from the winning bidder within 24 hours required, full payment within 7 days. Clear title of course. No games, no trades. In spite of the weather it's good for a test drive to interested parties if the roads are clear. Please ask questions before bidding. I've tried to be detailed in my description of the car but I will answer any questions anyone has.On Feb-19-11 at 17:11:52 PST, seller added the following information: Since I bought this car I've replaced or rebuilt almost everything besides the engine: master cylindar, distributor, (which now has electronic ignition), alternator, starter, electric fuel pump, new carpeting, new coil, complete new front suspension, custom aluminum headers and exhaust, Dave Bean cartrige water pump (if it fails you need not remove the engine like with the stock pump.
