Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1965 Bonneville I bought back in 2002 with the intention of restoring. I got it from the next door neighbor of it's long time lady owner. He had been given the car by the family after she passed away because he had kept up her yard for years after she had a stroke. When I got it it was still wearing 1993 license plates and was not running. According to him he thinks she bought the car new. It was originally delivered to Tom Hamilton Pontiac in Cocoa, Florida. The window sticker shows 26 factory options, plus it has a dealer installed Safe-T-Track differential. Her house was on an unpaved road in a small community outside of Vero Beach, Florida. It has the stock "YF" code, 325HP 389, 4 barrel V-8 with Turbo HydraMatic. I had the engine re-built, the front suspension rebuilt and installed new brakes and shocks. The mechanic that did the engine believes the miles are probably accurate as it was very clean internally with no cylinder wear. He magnafluxed the block and installed all new components, including hardened valve seats to run on unleaded fuel. The transmission was serviced and the front pump seal replaced at that time. The car is currently not running but I did get it started by installing an electric fuel pump and using a gasoline can. The gas tank is gummed up and needs replacing. Also, it needs a carburetor overhaul as it will not idle and the radiator is shot. It will need to be delivered by flatbed or winched onto a trailer. It cannot be driven. It was kept in a dirt floor carport so the undercarriage is immaculate and totally rust free. I probably scraped off 25 pounds of dirt from under there. Moisture has gotten under the vinyl top and there is a quarter size hole below the rear window, which let water into the trunk and there is an 8" section of the trunk that has perforated through, but it will be an easy repair. The vinyl roof will need replacing. I guess because of clogged drain holes the leading lower edge of both front doors are starting bubble underneath the stainless rocker trim. Otherwise the doors, fenders, quarters, hood and trunk do not have any rust. There is some surface rust as seen in the pictures. The body is very straight and does not appear to have ever been in an accident, but the car was repainted at some point in it's life. It is the correct "Y2" paint code, Mayfair Maize/Black Cordova Roof. All of the glass is in excellent shape except the windshield, which is cracked. I am including a new windshield with the car. All of the power windows and the power seat work. The front bumper is banged up but the back one is straight. It still has original type T-3 headlights. The battery is a couple of years old but will need charging. Also included are the owner's manual, body manual, shop manual, A/C manual, parts manual and PHS documentation. The interior is in great condition and totally original from the headliner down to the carpet. Another reason to believe the mileage is actual. There is a loose seam on the upper corner of the driver's seat back, a small section of piping is missing it's vinyl cover, a loose seam in the headliner and a hole in the carpet where the driver's left heel would be. No other rips, tears or wear. The dash pad is in excellent condition and all of the original woodgrain is still intact. The package tray has warped from moisture, but replacements are available aftermarket. This great old Pontiac is all there, it just needs someone to finish it. I am selling it as is, where is, no warranty expressed or implied. Buyer is responsible for shipping, but I can recommend someone that is reliable and has the proper equipment.
