Vehicle Detail
I AM RELISTING THIS CAR BECAUSE IT DID NOT REACH RESERVE. I HAVE SINCE PULLED THE ENGINE OUT AND REPLACED THE FREEZE PLUGS . I ALSO CLEANED THE ENGINE AND PAINTED IT. THE ENGINE HAS NO LEAKS. I ALSO INSTALLED NEW UPPER AND LOWER RADIATOR HOSES AND NEW HEATER HOSES. I CHECKED THE CLUTCH AND IT IS IN GOOD SHAPE. I HAVE NOT RAISED THE RESERVE AS IT IS ALREADY LOW AND ALMOST REACHED RESERVE LAST TIME.Rarest of the 63 500 xl body styles. Here's something you don't see everyday. 1963 Galaxie 500 XL 4 door hardtop with factory 390 4 speed and a power drivers seat and power steering. I bought this car recently with the intention of reselling it.First the story...there is always a story. The people I bought this car from bought it from a widow ( how come it is always a widow) in 1996 who had the car in her garage since her husband died. The guy who bought it tore the engine down to install a race cam in 2000 . He bought the parts he needed and then passed away before he could install them. The car sat in his garage until June 2010 until the son inlaw put the engine back together with the race cam . He got the car running but it didn't run well and just covered the car and left it as was. The car sat outside from June 2010 covered until I bought it recently. The license plates on the car expired in 2001. I trailered the car back to Colorado from Utah and put it in my garage. The car had a huge holley on it that leaked so I installed a rebuilt edelbrock 750 on it ,put fresh gas in it and it started right up. It seems to run and idle well but the cam does have a lope to it at idle. When the key is turned on the oil and gen light come on but go off when started as advertised. I do not know if gas and temp gauge work so assume they don't. I have driven the car in and out of my garage and it did fine. I do not know if the speedometer or odometer work so I don't know if mileage is accurate. The 4 speed goes into all gears fine although I have only moved it using 1st and reverse. The brakes require pumping to stop it so I have not taken it on the road.I removed the drums and cleaned the brakes and drums and reinstalled the drums. The driver side front has a new drum and shoes. The brakes hold without pumping but are close to the floor and come up when pumped. I have not done anything further to the brakes. Now about the car. It is obvious from looking at the car that it has spent most of its life garaged. It appears to have been repainted the original color. The paint does show scratches, chipped paint and two small areas( about half dollar size ) where the paint came off. First the numbers....Door data plate....75C M 88 01V 51 5 5...VIN 3J60Z187266 The engine numbers are.....Passenger side of block....C3AE 6015 H...date code by oil filter..3A11....heads....C1AE 6090 A...I only checked date code on one head it is...3E25.Exhaust manifolds have date codes of 3E14 and 3E20 . The intake with the 4 barrel is not original but is cast iron ford, I believe this to be the original engine because of the date codes but it is impossible to prove. The engine seems to run good . The car has shackles on the rear springs so it does sit a little high in the back as you can see in pictures. I would not consider the car a driver. The brakes and exhaust system need gone through and the windshield wipers dont work. The body is super straight with NO dents. The rockers are solid with no repairs. The hood and trunk open and close fine as do all the doors. All trim is there and in good shape with only a couple of dents, one of the dents is in the taillight ring. The outer windshield trim is exceptional. The grill is in good shape with no dents or damage. The bumpers are solid, the only dent in bumpers is a small dent on driver side front edge about 2 inches long. The headlights, tail lights, turn signals and dash lights work. The interior light on the passenger door works but the one on the driver door nor dome light do. The horn works. The only rust I could find was some bubbling on the drivers side in front of the wheel, look at the picture,it woud be an easy fix. The backside of the rust spot is solid. All other quarters seem solid inside and out./ I used a magnet on the car and it stuck well everywhere. I moved the trunk mat to either side and the trunk floor is solid and dry. The carpet in the car is dry with no rotting. I did not pull the carpet back but from underneath I see no rust. The cardboard piece in the rear window is warped and needs replaced. The seats are in good shape with age cracks on top of the back seat and on the back and and seat of the drivers seat. The driver seat is power but doesn't work. The console is in decent shape with no damage .Chrome console plate is excellent with most of the frost still on it.Car comes with original owners manual. I do not think the interior is original because the trim code says gold but this interior seems to be either a real light silver or real light blue. The carpet is blue as is the carpet on the door panels. The door panels are all in decent shape The headliner appears new and is tight and without damage. The dash has a custom cover on it that is tucked beneath the window and side trim and is a good smooth fit. I did not try to remove it.all glass is good with an arc scratch on the passenger side windshield from the wiper. The driver side rear window does not roll down all other windows including wings work fine. The interior is missing the radio, dome light lens and inside door handle on the driver side rear door. The tires on the car are dry rotted and are only good for rollers. They all hold air and don't leak down. There is no jack with the car. The rims on the car are chrome reverse with baby moons. They are okay but show some rust in the chrome. I am not trying to make a killing on this car and have set a low reserve. This car is sold AS IS WHERE IS. I encourage you to come look at the car.I will gladly pick you up and return you to the airport for free. If you can't come try calling the local car club and have someone come and look at it for you. I am retired so I am home most of the time. I encourage you to ask questions and I will answer to the best of my ability. I am not a Ford guy so any insight you can give me is appreciated. I do not want to trade the car or have you sell it for me. Payment terms are cash. any other payment must clear my bank BEFORE the car leaves my garage. A $500 deposit is due withen 24 hours and balance is due within 7 days of auction end.
