Vehicle Detail
Rare 1968 Volkswagon Dune Buggy 45,000 Original Miles! Here is an amazing example of the highly desirable 60's-70's Era Fiberglas Bune Buggy. This vehicle is a genuine "barn find". It began as a 1968 Beetle. Professionally converted in 1972. Garaged in 1973 where it was left for 32 years. This buggy was resurrected in 2005, by a true dune buggy enthusiast, with only 39,000 original miles! He was the 2nd owner, I am the 3rd owner. He was very knowledgable and, to his credit, the work he did to restore this vehicle to original/working mechanical condition is amazing! Starts first time, every time. I took the next steps toward making this a luxurious eye-catching ride that remained true to it's 60's-70's roots. -The original purple glitter paint, which features both pink & silver flecks for optimum color, is the brightest I've seen even at buggy shows. Some dings and very light fading in spots, but overall in remarkable condition! Polishes up to become unnoticeable. As good as these pictures are they still can't convey the stunning amount of color & shine in this amazing original purple gel coat! Some small holes were left behind possibly from a previous soft-top, but are easily covered at very low cost. (See photos) -The interior is 2-tone gray. The front bucket seats are from a 1994 Geo Metro and are fully adjustible, reclining/sliding seats... a rarity in these vehicles! The back seat was custom made to match and removes easily. This is the nicest buggy interior you'll see! -The taillights were converted to the highly-coveted '64 Mustang set-up (a MUST to be true era-correct contender!) using NOS Ford parts. The instrument cluster has been completely brought back to the original condition so all gauges function in one dial. Additionally wired with extra fully functioning tow-lights. Wipers work perfectly. The dashboard and taillights were remodeled with diamondplate for some extra chrome. The steering wheel was upgraded for comfort & handling... and the horn works! - The engine is a 1968 1600dpi. I chose to keep it as original as possible, using VW parts, out of respect for this low mileage survivor. New parts include the 12-Volt conversion, carburator, steering box, rear cage, skip plate, gas tank, chrome bumper, chrome mirrors, chrome headlights, windshield & frame, new master cylinder, rear drum brakes & new front disc brakes! - Current mileage is 45,000. Of the last 5,000 miles over 4,000 were tow-miles! Always a favorite whether driving down the street or in the middle of a buggy event. Parade driven just months ago, this is the buggy that others are measured by when it comes to style. Everything has been done to create a reliable, comfortable, ride that is a blast to drive! Whether you're touring the neighborhood, sliding through the sand, or cruising down the highway at 75 mph, heads will turn. This is a rare look at a beautiful piece of American history. Titled as original miles in Colorado and Arizona. Kept in pristine surroundings since 2005, only occasionally driven since then. Caught in the rain while under a car cover for 2 hours here, in Arizona, and got minor surface rust in a very small (11"x11") section of the pan. I could easily sand it away, but frankly that would look worse than this minor cosmetic-only fix when showing the vehicle. No structural integrity was effected. Regularly maintained and climate-controlled at all times. An amazing combination of history and style. Prettier than any I've seen... even at buggy events. Freshly tuned up with new belt, oil, and brand new battery. A unique opportunity for anyone who collects vintage low-mileage VW's or a buggy enthusiast who realizes what a rare find this is. The receipts nearly double the very fair reserve price. This a rare look at a LOW miles phenomenon... Just steps away from being a true show-quality vehicle. Add the finishing touches to be a show winner, or adjust the seats, turn the key... and go! INCLUDED WITH SALE!! Tow-Bar (1 7/8), Car Cover, VW Repair Manual, Goofy Foot gas pedal, and Peace Sign stickers ! Legitimate bidders only please. The last high bidder was a game player. All transaction issues will be reported and pursued through eBay & PayPal. ~Arrangements for pick up/delivery to be made by buyer.~ ( Bruce Meyers Manx Tow'd Purple Glitter Hippie Volkswagon Sandrail California Hawaii Beach Fun Barrett Jackson )
