Vehicle Detail
I am the 3rd owner of this totally original 1953 factory air conditioned 98 from Richardson, Texas. I bought the car from the second owner in 2005. He acquired from the original owner's estate in 1990 and did quite a bit of work on it, but never finished the project. After nearly 6 years, I know I am not going to finish it either. Despite how it looks, it is all there. It still wears what is left of it's original paint and upholstery. I have inventoried every part, and nothing is missing. The odometer has obviously rolled over, but I don't know how many times. The 2nd owner removed all the trim and did quite a bit of mechanical restoration. Here is what I have his receipts for: Wheel cylinders, brakes shoes and hardware, new tires. Re- cored radiator, new cap, heater control valve, hoses, clamps, belts, thermostat, and water pump. Flush and clean fuel tank, rebuild carburetor, new fuel pump, sending unit, filter, front to rear fuel line. New points, plugs, condenser, rotor, plugs, wires, battery, cables. All gauges, interior and exterior lights work. Re-built knee action shocks, power steering hoses and fittings, power brake booster, upper and lower control arm and stabilizer bar bushings. I installed a new batter and starter, and have kept it in indoor storage until last year. It has been stored outside since June 2009. It was running when parked, and I will do what I can to get it running again before the auction ends. Results will be posted as they happen. It may need to be winched onto a trailer. Do not bid planning on this car to move on it's own. Auction includes a complete second air conditioning unit and compressor. I have the original Dallas County safety inspection receipt from June 1953, original Autronic Eye , Power Brake, Day/Night Mirror and Air Conditioner instruction manuals, owner's manual, shop manual, Wonderbar radio service manual, showroom brochure, 1953 Quik-Reference parts manual, Frigidaire Car Conditioning service manual, and Master Parts List manual, all included in this auction. Many receipts from the 60's to the 80''s from the original owner are also included. The sale also includes re-chromed original tail light fender spears, hood and trunk emblems, "Ninety Eight" script for the trunk and both rear doors. Reproduction door mirrors, hood and trunk emblems and rear door vent glass are also included. I also have the correct fabric swatches from SMS for the tutone gray wool broadcloth interior. The exterior finish is Cameo White over Agate Red, as depicted on the data plate. There is also a set of new, in the box, gray seat belts I bought but never installed. The original padded dash is in flawless condition. Since this was a dry climate Texas car, the only rust I have found is a small 3" crack in the driver side front floor panel, see photograph. It is probably the most solid car of it's age in unrestored condition I have ever seen. This is a restoration project but one without any serious body work, only mechanical and cosmetic. The bumpers and grille will need re-chroming or replacement. The rest of the trim is either stainless or aluminum and is in great shape, only needing polishing or buffing. The windshield is cracked. Being sold as is, where is, no warranty expressed or implied. Buyer is responsible for transportation. I can store the car at no charge until February 15th. I will need a $200.00 deposit by PayPal within 24 hours and full payment within 7 days of auction's end. If these terms are not acceptable, please do not bid. Please ask questions if you feel I have missed anything. Thanks for looking.
