I have for sale this very RARE 1985 Toyota Corolla Diesel (1.8L) Hatchback. This is a factory diesel that was sold in the states. I am an avid lover of diesels and this is my 5th Toyota diesel. This car will achieve 55mpg highway and 45mpg city when in good running condition. These motors are very easy to work on and parts are quite readily available believe it or not. I purchased this car from the second owner, Son of the original owner out of Tampa, FL. I had all intentions of fixing it up and selling it in excellent condition. As is always the case, work got really busy and now I do not have time for my projects. You will see I have 2 other Toyota diesel cars for sale here on ebay as well (1984 Toyota Camry 1.8L Turbo Diesel & 1986 Toyota Camry 2.0L Turbo Diesel). This Corolla is not turbocharged as Toyota never turbocharged this engine in the small Corolla. Then engine is a bit sluggish off the line but once moving it drives around in traffic just fine, hey that little engine is what give this car that tremendous fuel mileage. I have personally only driven this car from where it was parked, around the block, and then onto my car trailer. It started up and ran a bit rough. I calculated this was due to very old diesel fuel in the fuel tank and a poorly adjusted injector pump. I adjusted some linkages on the engine and check a few wire connections. I found the glow plugs were not doing their job, I presume one or more are bad. All electronics/lighting worked in the car when I bought it! As far as I can tell everything is original in the car! The previous owner had no service records but swore the timing belt was changed around 170K when a water pump went out. So it has a newer water pump as well. It is critical on these Toyota diesel engines the timing belt be changed every 50k miles. The engine had a bad leaking valve cover gasket that I have since replaced with a factory Toyota part. I thoroughly cleaned off all engine bay of any oil deposits. I like my vehicles leak free and super clean! I also changed the oil and fuel filter. I added some diesel fuel additive to the tank but I would recommend to drain it. I just never got to it. As you can see in the pictures the heater core hoses have been cut meaning it does need a heater core. The vehicle also needs tires. The rear hatch is very rusted. The rear hatch lip seal around the edge of the actual vehicle has no rust, just the hatch. I have found other hatches for sale around the US for $100 or less. The wiper still works on the hatch as well. The package tray is still attached! This is very rare to still be in the vehicle, albeit in rough shape, but you could easily use it to make another one. The vehicle does have some other rust on it besides the hatch (see pictures). The car has been stored in a climate controlled warehouse ever since I have owned it. I absolutely love Toyota diesels and I am sad to have to sell my collection. I hope they will go to other diesel lovers to cherish and enjoy what a diesel has to offer.
