1964 MGB This is a super nice, highly original 1st series 'pull handle' car for the discerning MG enthusiast to restore. All matching numbers, orig keys (with 2 orig spares) documents include original service voucher book with 1st owners name in it and the drivers handbook. Service records NOT present ..but car has been well maintained... Non-smog 18g 3 main bearing engine model, one previous registered lady owner from new until we aquired it around '04. Always in CA. Relatively unmolested but a well used and well maintained car which drives but need's re-commisioning/restoring before normal use. Engine runs very sweet and strong. Good oil pressure, no discernable blowby or odd noises and runs cool. Its pretty oily on the outside but does not seem to have any discernable leaks (dry underneath, no drips when parked ). The transmission is somewhat tired..gears OK but bearings noisy and the normal weak 2nd gear synchro . Clutch hydraulics weak and has air in system so pedal is close to floor to release clutch. Axle quiet and brakes work well. The orig twin 6v battery set up has been changed for a single 12v and re-located to trunk. Battery boxes all sound. The car has covered approx 128,000 miles..its has mostly original factory old english white paint. The hood, hood platform panel, front apron and driver side front fender were replaced early in the cars life with factory panels after a truck backed into it, and repainted to a very good match (hood is correct alloy as supplied at that time). The panel gaps on the car are very good, although driver’s door would benefit from some readjustment of lower hinge to be perfect (shuts well as-is). Interior is very scruffy, dash rail poor..door capping rails off car (but present..one restorable). The seats were recovered in leather at some point and need re-doing..(leather dry and piping disintegrating). The car is VERY solid, but passenger side rear 'dog leg' is beginning to show a few light blisters, niether floor is sound and both have been gooped up from inside the car with a resinous material long ago. The driver side floor pan has an alloy patch bolted in in footwell area ( the nuts/bolts for which can be seen in underside shot of pan..to be clear :- both floor pans need replacing in our opinion). Otherwise the car is very sound. Factory hardtop included, no soft top but top bows present, as are jack and knock off hammer in orig bag. The air filters are off the car but included. Correct coil mounting bracket is included, as is original copper heater return pipe (one on car is replacement with an inline shut off valve) …coil was re-located after a later type factory 'spin on' oil filter set up was added to replace the messy to change orig cartridge type a long time back. The car starts easily and drives, but should be considered a project to re-commision/restore before serious use. All in all this is a super nice relatively unmolested car that you can see whats-what on ..to summarise;- Very few of these cars remaining still have original paint and as good panel gaps as this car. original paint means no surprises ..no bondo or hidden cover ups as with most of these cars on the market.. Never any serious accident issues, and the minor outer panel replacement at front early in the cars life were obviously carried out properly. Inspection is recommended for the unsure by appointment before end of auction. If you have been looking for an early car to restore, which is unmolested and sound this one is hard to beat ..again.. floor replacement recommended, one dog leg showing obvious blistering.. as you'd expect with a well used, unrestored car ... it has scratches,dings and chips .... Paint original as it left the factory .. except on panels replaced many years back :- hood, left (driver side) front fender and hood platform panel...none of which have bondo or hidden surprises ..
