Vehicle Detail

1971 Chevelle SS 454 LS5 NOT a clone ! This numbers matching car is probably the most highly documented Chevelle available. The documents go back to August 1970, when the original build sheet was put under the seat, and the original door tag was put on the car during the build at the Van Nuys, California Chevrolet factory. Sequentially, other documents include notes from the original buyer prior to the purchase, the original deposit receipt from the dealer, the original dealer invoice, the original salesmans business card, a carbon copy of the original Bill of Sale(and corresponding notary affidavit), the original warranty book, the original protect-o-plate, and the original owners manual(in the original Chevrolet plastic bag). And many more. The body panels are all original, the glass is all original, the radiator is original, even the cylinders in the ignition, doors, console, glove box, and trunk are original - I had new keys made from the code on the original invoice, and they work perfectly. The car even has the original dealers license plate frame! The build sheet indicates that this early production car is the 13th 1971 Chevelle to be built at the Van Nuys plant. It states "pilot job to be reassigned", and the dealer code is 000. The build was charged to Chevrolet Motor Division, Los Angeles California 90067. Does this mean that this is a COPO car? Maybe........ The build sheet also lists the following; A01 - all tinted glass, A02 - tinted windshield, A51 - strato bucket seats, B22 - SS door emblems, B37 - floor mats, B42 - luggage compartment mat, B80 - roof drip moulding, B93 - door edge guards, B96 - front + rear wheel opening mouldings, C08 - vinyl top, C24 - depressed windshield wipers, C60 - air conditioning, D35 - outside left + right mirrors, D55 - front console, F41 - special performance suspension, GY2 - 3:31 ratio rear axle, J50 - power brakes, JL2 - power front disc brakes, LS5 - V8 454 cui 4 bbl carb., M40 - 3 speed automatic transmission, N10 - dual exhaust, N40 - power steering, PM7 - F60x15 white letter tires(an original of which is the spare),T60 - heavy duty battery, U25 - luggage compartment lamp, U26 - under hood lamp, U27 - glove compartment lamp, U28 - ash tray, U29 - instrument panel courtesy lamps, U63 - push button radio, U76 - windshield antenna, ZJ9 - lite group, and Z15 - SS 454 package. Other documentation consists of about 75 pages of receipts from 1971 to 2003 that document the service and owner history of the car. It is extremely rare to have this extent of documentation on a car, and proves exactly what the car is -a quality investment better than the stock market. As for the condition of the car, I would consider it to be excellent, but not quite Concourse quality. The paint was redone in 1989, apparently to a very high standard. The paint is so shiny that it is hard to get good photos because of everything reflecting off of it. There are a few minor flaws in the paint, and I can email you close up photos on request. I would have had these fixed before selling the car, but my body man is 3 hours away, and he is the only person I would trust with the car. It's probably a $500 fix. The interior is in very good condition, and the only apparent flaw is that the carpet is slightly faded where there were no floor mats in the front. This can easily be corrected. One of the A/C vents is also loose. Other than that, the car extremely straight. Please note that the odometer reads 38,900 miles, but it has been around once. The actual mileage is 138,900, but you'd never know it because the car has been so well taken care of. The photos show the level of care that the car has had during its life, and you will be hard pressed to find another car like this that you KNOW where it has been, and what has(or has not) been done to it. The original motor was professionally rebuilt about 200 miles ago, and runs better than new. At the same time, the original Rochester Quadrajet carb was professionally restored and rebuilt. The engine was not cleaned or detailed for the photos, and looks great. The rest of the mechanics of the car are also in excellent operating condition, and nothing needs to be done to drive this car anywhere(but I wouldn't - it's way too nice). As for the interior, all of the gauges appear to work, as do the interior lights, all exterior lights and blinkers, wipers, radio, fan, heater, A/C, seat belt clasps, windows, seat slides, the "key in ignition buzzer",...everything works. The undercarriage of the car has not been cleaned or detailed for the photos, and is extremely clean. As for rust, there is no visible rust on the car. Being a West Coast car for most of its life, it was not prone to rust the way most other cars are. The exhaust does have minor surface rust that could be sealed and coated to look new. The car has a date code correct alternator that was just rebuilt. The tires are like new, and have loads of tread on them. I have a clear, transferable NY registration in my possession, ready to sign over to the new owner. All my other cars are gone - most recently a '66 Mustang Fastback to Australia, and a 1973 Porsche to Germany. The only reason that I am selling my cars is because I am moving, and will not have a place to store them. Please feel free to ask questions, and I'll do my best to answer them. I have many more photos I can email on request. Payment is to be made by check, money order, wire transfer, or cash. The car will be released after funds have cleared. Since this is a used car, it is sold "As is , where is" without any warranty, expressed or implied, and it is up to the buyer to determine the road worthiness of this car. Please don't let the last statement scare you - I have had this car doing 80+mph from a stand still, and there was no shimmy, shake, or uneasy feeling at all - just loads of burning rubber ! Check my feedback, and be sure that you will be getting one Hell of a car knowing that I will not jeopardize my Ebay rating for any reason. You will get exactly what I have described - and I will have sellers remorse. If you are looking for a Chevelle to add to, or start your collection, this is the one. Cars like this only come along once in a great while. Don't let this one get away. Thanks for bidding. On Jan-30-11 at 08:05:54 PST, seller added the following information: I thought I should mention that I have taken a magnet to the lower panels(and undersides of panels), and it sticks everywhere I put it. The magnet is very weak, and pulls just under 1 ounce (.96 to be exact) - it should detect a skim coat of bondo 1/16" .On Jan-30-11 at 13:47:36 PST, seller added the following information: Payment in full is due within 72 hours of the end of the auction. If you do not have the funds, please do not bid. The item will be resold if payment is not received according to terms. On Jan-31-11 at 22:18:24 PST, seller added the following information: Just so that you know the quality of this car, I have over $40,000.00 in it.
